It will end.
2Pe 3:10-13
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. (KJV)

The book "Letter by Letter" by the author Steven Paul is a detailed book about the end of times. Worth reading if you want things explained. There is a lot of information in the book but you have to be ready to think.

"Now I saw a NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH, FOR THE FIRST HEAVEN AND THE FIRST EARTH HAD PASSED AWAY. ALSO THERE WAS NO MORE SEA.
THEN I, JOHN, SAW THE HOLY CITY, NEW JERUSALEM, COMING DOWN OUT OF HEAVEN FROM GOD, PREPARED AS A BRIDE ADORNED FOR HER HUSBAND. AND I HEARD A LOUD VOICE FROM HEAVEN SAYING 'BEHOLD, THE TABERNACLE OF GOD IS WITH MEN, AND HE WILL DWELL WITH THEM, AND THEY SHALL BE HIS PEOPLE. GOD HIMSELF WILL BE WITH THEM AND BE THEIR GOD. AND GOD WILL WIPE EVERY TEAR FROM THEIR EYES; THERE SHALL BE NO MORE DEATH, NOR SORROW, NOR CRYING. THERE SHALL BE NO MORE PAIN, FOR THE FORMER THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY. THEN HE WHO SAT ON THE THRONE SAID, 'BEHOLD, I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW.' AND HE SAID TO ME, 'WRITE, FOR THESE WORDS ARE TRUE AND FAITHFUL." Rev. 21:1-5
Edit: Thank you for asking this quesiton. There does seem to be a lot of confusion about it. Revelation is a book about the past, present, and FUTURE. John, the disciple wrote it while he was in the Spirit, and imprisoned on the Isle of Patmos. This is where Jesus gave John the Revelation.
This is not about Rome in the ancient times when John was alive! If so, then where is the New Heaven and Earth? Where is Jesus? He is suppose to be here! It says the HEAVEN AND THE EARTH WILL PASS AWAY. A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH WILL BE CREATED. HAS THIS HAPPENED YET? NO!
REVELATION IS ALSO BIBLICAL PROPHECY YET TO BE FULFILLED. IT ALSO SAYS THAT GOD WILL DWELL AMONG US. AND THAT THERE WILL BE NO MORE DEATH, AND NO MORE TEARS AND SADNESS. HAS THAT HAPPENED? NO. I am saying this for all those who think Revelation is just a "writing" about Rome.

Revelations indicates that there will be catestrophic changes: there will be two in the fields, one will be taken and the other left. According to the text, about half of the human population will be destroyed in one fell swoop. Mountains will crumble into the sea, etc.
There will be an epic battle between good and evil, between God and Satan; then there will be a thousand year peace, with Christ ruling Mankind.
So, change of the unimaginable kind.

According to God’s Word, this earth will never be destroyed. There is, however, a 3rd heaven and earth age, dispensation of time. Then God will destroy the elements, which means all evil from this earth. In other words, He’s going to give earth a through cleaning, if you will.

The wicked will be removed from it and God will restore it and rule with a rod of iron. The Bible says a world without end. The wrath of God against the wicked is painful to the point that they beg for rocks to fall upon them in hopes of ending their life. The Lord returns to keep mankind from destroying themselves. Hopefully, the church will have a pre-tribulation rapture and miss the horrors that are coming. The Bible tells us to "watch and pray that we can escape these things that are coming upon the earth and that we be accounted worthy to stand before the Lord."
You don't offend me. It is my privilege to tell you what I know. Please be ready for the return of Jesus in the clouds. You do not want to go through the Tribulation. The last part of it from Bible standpoint is horrible. Whether the rapture be pre-trib, mid-trib or post-trib, the Lord promises that He will not leave us or forsake us. Trust in the Lord.

It simply means that man's reign over the earth and its governance will come to a complete end. Certain events must unfold first before this takes place. Alot of people are walking around saying "When is this supposedly going to happen, if it's true?", but people said the same thing before Christ actually came on the scene and took alot of people by drastic surprise.
