It is not uncommon for persons with bipolar disorder to forget parts of manic episodes. This is because often times so much is going on during these periods that it can be difficult to sort out one thing from the other. Fleeting thoughts are also quite common during manic episodes so forgetting things is possible. It is much less common, however, for a person with bipolar disorder to forget a depressive episode as things move considerably slower and tend to be fairly severe. Additionally, someone who has lived with bipolar disorder for years, may well forget about one or more episodes just because they have experienced so many cycles that they could not possibly remember them all.
Hope this helps.

Nope. In mania, thoughts race incredibly fast. Remembering the start of a sentence can be difficult by the time you get to the end of it, and that's when you are the one speaking. Thinking is disorganized and irrational, judgment's way off, cognition is impaired, memory sucks, psychosis can happen. I'd be very surprised if anyone who had a real mania remembered much of the details. If it goes for weeks, there's apt to be days that aren't really recalled. Completely forgetting the entire episode happened... highly unlikely unless they got a bump on the head and amnesia.

The bi polar disorder is a highly stressful time and you will remember it long after the peaceful times of life have faded away. There are a few ways to forget memories besides brain concussion . The severe alcoholic can lose long periods of memory and again today we have brain surgeries that are desigened to remove memories of stress and depression. The old lobotomies were essentially memory loss treatments.

no that normally doesn't happen. Usually when it comes to forgetting a complete episode tha is Pschyzo....you really should talk to a therapist about this. There are medications that can help if this is happening to you. All the best. Wish I could have been more helpful.

I forget things all the time, but with meds Its alot better. I don't know about weeks. A day or hours, weeks would be a bit scary. Good luck.

Possible but unlikely , They tend to block some things out intentionally due to guilt or embarrassment or they will have "convenient memory lapses. In that case ,better to just play along knowing that they have learned enough of a lesson to have gone to such extremes.

Yes. Bipolar people don't have control over their actions, much more with the memory of those actions.

I think they could be in self denial about it. They really don't think logically and to them it may feel normal.
