I wouldn't recommend buying flea medication from Walmart. They sell flea medication by Hartz/Zodiac which has been linked to the deaths of hundreds of dogs and cats. Go to your local pet store and buy Frontline (I know Pet Supplies Plus sells it for sure, it's behind the counter so you have to ask). It's not very expensive, but worth every penny because it gets rid of and prevents fleas and ticks.
There is a medicine called Sentinel that controls fleas, ticks, heartworms, and 5 other intestinal parasites (worms) and that is available from most vets. It's about $60 for a pack of 6 pills- I know it sounds expensive but since it's a heartworm preventative, takes care of fleas/ticks, and the other most common worms which all dogs will get at some point in time- so it's well worth the money. I give this to my 3 dogs and have never had a flea/tick/worm problem.
If you want something cheaper, Frontline and Capstar work great.
Do not risk your pet's life by giving it anything from Walmart or any grocery store. They contain horrible chemicals which have left abscesses on the animals' backs and killed hundreds.

I work at Wal-Mart and I wouldn't buy any flea drops from there. Like everyone else has said, go to the vet and get either frontline or advantage to put on your pet. I asked my vet about over the counter flea drops and they both told me if I wanted to kill my dogs to go ahead and use them as they all contained a huge amount of pesticides. They also had a whole drawer full of over-the-counter flea drops people had given them at the same time that they brought their pets in for treatment from the side effects of these cheaper products. They said that it should be against the law to sell something like that. Of course the companies that put out these over-the-counter flea drops had to pay the vet bills, but if your pet dies there is no replacement value for that. Spend the extra money.

It varies, but they're cheap. Much cheaper than veterinary products. Reason for this? They don't work. Stores are not licensed to sell the appropriate drugs, so they just bottle up what are basically random pesticides that are often not even suitable to be applied to an animal. Hartz and Zodiac are the number ones to stay away from - check out www.hartzvictims.org.

Stick with stuff from a vets, like Frontline or Revolution or Advantage - stuff you can trust to actually kill fleas and not your pet.

As with most thing, you get what you pay for.

I would not recommend purchasing any of the "over-the-counter" flea products to use on your pet. There have been many reactions and even deaths resulting form using several of the available products at Wal Mart, pet stores, and farm stores. Your best bet is to ask your vet what they recommend and follow through with that. Your pet will be protected and have the least chance of a dangerous reaction.

I've made the same mistake -- those over-the-counter flea meds are very hard on the animals' systems. I'd try to wash it off, if possible (at least the application site). Watch them for any sign of seizure. Contact your vet, and ask them about it. It's best to get Frontline or some other prescription brand from your vet, but you'll have to wait a few weeks in order to give them another dose. I hope the kitties are okay!!

The stuff you buy at wal- mart isn't worth buying and could possible kill your dog go to your local vet and tell them the weight of your dog and get front-line or k9 advantage it cost a little more but it works and wont hurt you pet's it will keep them bug free for about 4 to 5 weeks

Nope..dont bother wasting your $, and risking your pets life with the crap they sell at walmart.

I know around here, Petco sells Advantage, and Tractor Supply store sells Frontline. I would check there. Little more expensive..I think $30 or $40 for a 3-4 month supply, but it's worth the $ since they work.

Unless they sell Frontine or Advantage, or something of that quality, the flea drops in Walmart (like Harz Mtn.) are useless, don't waste your money.

If you are trying to save money, look on Ebay or do a search for an online pet store that sells for less.

They can cost you your dogs life. Please do not use over the counter flea and tick control. It is poison and has harmed and killed many dogs. You need to go to the vet and get some frontline and capstar. It probably won't cost any more then 10 bucks. Call them tomorrow. They will want to know the weight of your dog then you can go pick it up. No appointment needed.
