I have been suffering from anxiety and depression, have already had a leave of absence from work, and 3 months later I'm coping just as poorly, if not worse, than before my leave. I work with very negative people and not a very supportive team. I can't take it any longer, but am too exhausted at the end of my work day to look for something new. I don't have much savings, but I don't know how much longer I can go on like this. Would it be completely irresponsible to give 2 weeks notice without something else lined up?

I had almost the same situation 2 years ago. I was working as a crime scene technician with a bunch of miserable old woman. I was a bright-eyed recent college grad and they were all burned out hags who resented the fact hat I worked hard on my cases and got attention from the boss for doing well. To make a long story short, they harrassed me every single day. They threatened me, made me go on calls and I missed lunch and i was just too much. I ended up losing 20 pounds and I got down to 103 pounds and I am 5'7. I quit the job and immediately got certified to substitute teach. Where I live, they always have a job everyday!

Try getting certified to sub. It is very fun, rewarding, and easy. It only took me two days to get certified and I have had jobs everyday!

It really depends on where you live. If you live in a large city, your chances of getting a new job are much better than if you are like me and live in the country. I gave a 2 weeks notice in Myramar, FL once and got fired on the spot. You have to be ready for that kind of response also.

I ended up losing my apartment and car in Pompano Beach, FL when I gave a 4 week notice and couldn't find another job. That's another scenario you have to consider.

I say go with your gut feeling. You'll really have to hustle to get another job, and you don't want another negative one. It's taking a chance, but life is too short to be miserable at work. Good luck to you!

Yes , Very... It always looks better to employers if you have a job and your ready 4 a "step up" rather than saying "i just couldn't tough it out and now that I'm a wimpy little quitter who is not even wise enough to line up a new job b-4 walking out on my last boss,,,, may be you would think about hiring some one like me? Never tell a potential employer that you couldn't get alone with your co-workers,Don't sound like a team player 2 me. Tell them that your ready for a change and that you have gone as far as you can go in your job. Your ready to move on and move up, See where im going with this?

Well just think about it like this: Where will you be getting money from when you run out? It could be months until you get a new job. Can you support yourself? If not, then maybe you should have used that leave more wisely and looked for a job then. You shouldnt need a supportive team to do your job. But if its THAT bad, you have do do what you have to do. But dont come back here crying when you're thousands of doallrs in debt because you needed to charge your life for a few months....

What's to say that you will find something different in a new job? There could be something bothering you outside of your job and it just seems comfortable to blame the workplace. If you are sure you need to change jobs and you have low savings I don't think you should quit unless you have other means of financial support as this will only create more problems.

You could take sick leave and spend all the time looking for work, till you find something new. It is better to have a job lined up before you quit that place.

If your job is affecting your health, then you should leave. If money is an issue, try taking a part-time position (minimum wage type) just to have some money coming in until you can find something more suitable. I'm sorry for your trouble and wish you the best. Please be sure to see a doctor and get a complete physical.

Only if you are in a financially secure position to do so. Your health comes first and if you can find work that is more suitable to your condition or a manger able to accommodate your special needs, why not?

If you are in a position to be able to take care of your finances and yourself without needing a job then do so. especially if it is causing you so much more emotional stress. Be certain to be able to make ends meet though.
