Any dog living with a single person will bond with that person but if you really want a dog that becomes very in tune with your emotions get the male.
A male dog will always bond more with a female and the same for a man, the female will bond with him.
I just home your cats like him.

I've always had females too because for whatever unexplainable reason I haven't wanted a male. My husband bullied me into getting a male (I have a male/female combo now) and he is without a doubt one of the best dogs I've ever had, easy to train, smart, great with kids/people/dogs. My female is great too, so toss a coin. Go look at the pups, maybe one will chose you. Good luck with your new pup.

Well, being a boy or girl dog doesn't affect its' guarding ability. To get a female or male, it depends. If you get a female, you have to consider prices for spaying if you would want that done. But a male, they can be just as good as females. But you need to be the one to really decide if you want a boy or girl. That is just some of my advice.

Has nothing at all to do with the sex of the dog, depends on whether the dog has prey drive towards cats. Both my girls have far more prey drive than my 4 males, so can't go by that.

I have heard that males (especially the kind your getting) try to take over and dominate so they may not do as well. I'd suggest getting a female. Good luck!

If you are going to get the dogs fixed then it doesn't matter what kind you get. I think that if you are going to have to potty train them too you should get a female. Male are harder to potty train and they mark their territory.

For your specific situation, I would have to say a male would be your best bet, as long as you train it to be protective, but still fun.

you should get a female because they have the natural instinct to protect-young ones, masters, ect- and because they dont mark their territory on your stuff!!
