In general CA is noted for Valencia Oranges ..brought in from Spain..strawberries, mostly out of Oxnard, are grown all over So Cal. Avocados dominate Carpinteria (near Santa Barbara where the tri tip is king). Watsonville has apples. Castroville has artichokes. Cherries near Palmdale... Bakersfield has onions..Anaheim has a chili named after it. Cabazon ..near Palm Springs..is the date capital. Calabasas has squash (direct translation) . Wine grapes are from Nap, Sonoma, Mendocino, Santa Inez (north of Sta Barbara)...There are cultural dishes from every country...Mexican, Chinese and Italian places are everywhere.....Some are good; some are wanna be's.

There's no one food... I guess you can say CA is pretty well known for its wine, but as far as food goes, there are lots of thing grown in CA (tons of fruit and veggies and nuts). As far as cuisine, you can find Mexican food everywhere, and a lot of Asian food is very common, both of these due to the immigrant populations in CA. All kinds of fusion restaurants everywhere, CA is a mix of so many different types of cuisine it is too hard to label and too hard to narrow down.

One thing that comes to mind is obviously the "California Roll" which is a popular type of sushi, and that is pretty well known.

I'm going to have to go with wine.
