The only reason no one can understand what you are saying is because you butcher your English grammar so that it doesn't make sense. Anyone in Australia, the UK, Canada, etc. can understand people from the United States so long as the American is using the language correctly and knowing you should capitalize proper nouns and use apostrophes for contractions.

I'm not sure you are asking a fair question here because it sounds like you have your mind already made up on this issue. Excuse me, if I'm wrong.

Broadly speaking, Americans and British still speak the same language. I've noticed more differences between the Mexican Spanish of my co-workers and Castilian Spanish than I have between British and American English. There is a strong Nahuatl influence on Mexican Spanish that is often overlooked by Spanish and Romance language scholars.

You have to be careful about slang words because they are ephemeral and often don't last any more than two or three generations. In the 1960's and 70's I was hearing many slang words in the U.S. that didn't last more than a year or two like groovey for "excellent; wonderful," Right on! for "exactly right," and bread for "money," a loan word from Cockney.

Americans and British are beginning to develop different cultures and national characters much like Germans and Austrians have. However, so far, their languages are still essentially the same just like they are between Germans and Austrians. Only time will tell if the American and British varieties of English eventually diverge into separate languages like H.L. Mencken and Will Durant thought they would.

During the few months I spent in England, I was shocked by the way they butcher English. To such an extent that an English teacher would commit suicide. Stuff like "he were" "we was" Maybe you can speak English perfectly (good for you) but I found that English people butcher the language much more than the average American.

You're right, we speak American. And if you get right down to it, we even have different dialects here in the states. People in the south sound different than people from the New England area. A Texan and Oklahoman sounds different than a southerner. People from the upper mid-west sound different than people from the west coast. Living in Michigan (the lower part), people from the UP (upper peninsula) sound different than we do here in the lower. What a country we live in! Love it!

I think the language is still recognisably English.

It has to change a lot more to be a different language.
