When a police department gets a large grant for fighting drugs, how does that affect how individual policemen get compensated and promoted? Do those incentives cause the police to negect other crimes not related to drugs?

I would hope not... task force appointments usually encompass specific numbers of officers to force response with specialization in that area... another words not all officers would be applied to grant response! and i would also say that it would have little to do with officer individual performance, evaluation and promotion that would be a separate determination all together...as for compensation that is another mater all together left up to the department its self...

The money goes to the drug unit where their assigned duties are to investigate drug complaints. Many smaller departments have a MEG (Multijuirsdictional Enforcement Group), so they combine resources with other departments in drug investigations.

A good portion of these funds are from asset forfeiture, not taxpayer money. They use confiscated drug money to fight drugs.

Grants are to be used only for that particular portion of law enforcement on which the grant is based.

A "street racing enforcement" grant, for example, is only to be spent on racing enforcement. It pays for unmarked cars, over time for officers, fuel, etc."

The use of the money is always audited so they aren't spent on inappropriate or unrelated items.

It causes them to manifest crimes or use entrapment to get convictions. I believe it's been 25 years for the war on drugs and nothings changed. Another failed republican plan used to suck money from the taxpayers.
