The modern day Ranger started with MAJ Darby in WWII, but Rangers have been fighting in the United States since the King James War.
Rangers have been disbanded after every war except Vietnam War. After Vietnam, there was only 2 Ranger Battalions formed and after Grenada the 75th Ranger Regiment was formed with three battalions.

The modern Rangers can trace their history to WWII. However, part of the inspiration was Rodger's Rangers of the French and Indian War.
