All the uniforms have there own purpose. As for the best there is not a certain one, because each one is used in a certain environment.
ACU - It doesn't work because it is only three colors, if it had 6 colors, like one I seen it works very well. The Army should have looked at 6 color pattern.
BDU - works well in the woods and in Europe.
DCU - this pattern works well in the desert, where there are sand dunes, such as Southern Afghanistan.
The New Cyro Camo is a good pattern, but it will not work well in the desert, to many dark colors.

The new patterns work the best because they break up the image better. When I was in Africa, I saw an Airman standing next to a Marine. The Airman was in DCUs, and the Marine in the Desert Digital Pattern Uniform. Against the skyline at about 100 meters, the Marine looked blury against a skyline. Obvioulsy I could make out his silloute against a skyline, but the detail inside the outline were blury while on the DCU you could make out the different patches, where the name tape was, etc.

Coming from a wife who does a LOT of laundry, I HATE ACUs. The velcro attaches to EVERYTHING-even when you turn them inside out. They also don't last nearly as long as the old BDUs did. My husband has replaced five of them due to stitches coming out and all. The thread unravels and bundles up the jackets. However, I have no professional point of view on how they feel and all. I just hate washing them.

ACU does not blend into much of anything, low light conditions and really dusty environments
BDU works best in European woodland environments only
DCU works best in Middle Eastern desert environments only
MultiCam appears to capture the best elements of BDU and DCU, it blends in well in most environment. Something that ACU has failed to do....

ACU sucks, it dont work in the desert, it dont work in the woods, it dont work in the city
Multicam seems to be the ideal, but too much money's invested in the ACU to switch

Depends on the situation. I will say that the Army messed up thinking one camo pattern could do it all.
