By "people" I assume you mean "voices" like the friendly little thought voice you normally think with. A person however is a complete, "body, mind and soul" entity. For both these criteria for me at present there is only one of me in my head and in my person. But I, being a schizophrenia Paranoia outpatient, have had other "people" (voices) in my head during my lifetime.Such a condition is considered a disorder and is diagnosable as an hallucinatory affect.
There is also the condition known as "Dissociative Identity Disorder," DID, which schizophrenia is not. This latter used to be known as multiple personalities. You might look these up by typing "Dissociative Identity disorder" and "hallucinations" in to Yahoo! web search. Wikipedia has good summaries..
God luck with the "people" in your head, Good mental health, peace and love!

Just me though I do talk to myself alot and have an inner dialogue running with myself most of the day. When I was little my parents had to train me out of it because I was giving a running commentary on every little thought or idea that popped into my head. It was apparently very annoying...

a very interesting question indeed.
we all have thousands projections of our brain structure. these subpersonalities have voices which constitutes our "mind chatter". you might want to study "embracing ourselves" a book on voice dialogue.
i can recognize a dozen different voices:
- an organizing self, "the secretary" female
- a second organizing self "the P.A." male
- an inner child (male)
- a critic personality male (looks like a old hag)
- a critic personality female (looks like a cherokee chief)
- a killer personality, instinctive, female.
- a second killer personality, more rational male.
- a show-off self
- a second show-off self.
there are more, only i am not investigating to find others...
