It's not an area code. Use the Iraq country code of 964 then the number he gave you. You will need to dial 00-964-790xxxx. I am in Iraq and that is the cell phone designation for the carrier here, Iraqna.

If he is calling you from a cell phone, I'm pretty sure you can call him back.I bought an Iraqna SIM card to put in my cell phone. 790 is like the 3 digit area code in the states, except 790 is from Iraq. To call him back try dialing, 011+964+790+his 7 digit number. I'm in Baghdad as well and cell phones get pretty good service here so you should not have any problems getting through. Good luck =)

He probably called you by using a AAFES/ AT&T phone card, if your getting a 790 area code. If he was calling you direct, then it would say 946, then the number. I know because I'm here in Iraq as well and I have a cell phone with an Iraqna sim card. But where I'm located, I can't get any signal.

The 790 area code is one of those attached to the use of a phone card. It's where the call goes through from Iraq to conenct to you here at home. You can't call it back. You an trybut it'll just be a busy signal. He'll call back.

hello, I'm in Iraq aswell. If he called from a cell phone, then he bought an Iraqna phone, which is like the cell phone company here. You can call him, but make sure you use a calling card, and next time he calls, ask for his full phone number. Good luck =) Also....you'll have to get the country code aswell, I don't have it handy right now, you can call the operator and ask for the country code

He is not lying to you.

Our daughter calls from Afghanistan. She is able to us a DSN line and it comes up VA. When our sons were in Iraq and called, the number usually came up a MD number. It depends on the calling card and where he is calling from.

You cannot not call him back. He is most likely calling from a payphone. Some of the families have Vonage and are able to call from their computers.

790 is not a valid U.S. area code. If you have his number why not try to call it?

When my daughter calls home my caller ID says it is coming from Alaska. So it can indicate a phone card code or the code in the US that the call is first relayed from.

You can't call back. It's very upsetting if you miss one of their calls. If things are the same as when my son was there, they set up phones at certain times and let them call home. He'll call again.
