At that time there was a well known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas

KJV, and most English translations:

And they had then a notable prisoner named Barabbas

Forgive me for being a linguist but doesn't [ bar=son and abbas= god]

Jesus Son of God...which one did they crucify?


Sorry to give the atheist more ammunition but we kinda set ourselves up for this one by translating Matthew into Greek and then somehow losing the original version.

I can't help it if BAR means SON and ABBAS means father.

habebat autem tunc vinctum insignem qui dicebatur Barabbas

"In the Christian narrative of the Passion of Jesus, Barabbas, according to some texts Jesus bar-Abbas, (Aramaic: בר-אבא, Bar-abbâ, "son of the father"), was the insurrectionary whom Pontius Pilate freed at the Passover feast in Jerusalem."

There were not two Saviours but two men possibly both called Jesus. One Jesus and the other (Jesus) Barrabas. One man opposed the Roman govt by an insurrection the other opposed them with a non violent "turn the other cheek" principle. I know Abba to mean "father" not "God".

The Bible is very clear as to which one was crucified. The leader of the 12 apostles. There is more biblical evidence to support this than any other view.

1 Cor 15:14 "And if Christ be not risen, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is also in vain."

However, there was no conspiracy. The Christian faith is real. We experience the love of God and fellowship with Him as we approach Him by faith. FAITH is the most important element in a believer in approaching God. I would say the believer uses FAITH for salvation almost as much as God uses GRACE to save the believer. God reveals Himself to the believer after the initial step and this creates more faith in the believer.

This is what that actually means Barrabas had taken part in a rebellion against the Roman Government (Mark 15:7) Although an enemy to Rome, he may have bee a hero to the Jews. Ironically, Barabbas was guilty of the crime for which Jesus was accused. Actually Barabbas means son of the father, not Son Of God!. which was actually Jesus position with God. For a leader who was supposed to administer justice, Pilate proved to be more concerned about poitical expediency tha about doing what was right. He had several opportunities to make the right decision. His conscience told Him Jesus was innocent; But Roman law said an innocent man should not be put to death; and his wife had a troubling dream. Pilate had no good excuse to condemn Jesus, but he was afraid of the crowd.
