Do you have all your recipes scanned from your book or do you actually type them all out and saved them in your hard drive/ cd/ diskette?
I truly admire you people here for the tactfulness and accuracy in providing all those 'secret' ingredients in such a jiffy (I mean, seriously, some appears to post them in record timing and it got me thinking for a moment)...
As for me, I'm just being pretty much of an observer and learning a few stuff besides posting my questions on Oompa Loompas and Chocolates... :-)
Cheers...

Hi most of my recipes were handed down to me from my Mom and Aunts; some of the recipes are about 20-40 years old, Some day I will transfer them to my computer but until then I do it the old way I go through them one at a time...

I have all my family favs on recipe cards from the 60s. I have over 1,200 cookbooks and, when we were going to be traveling for 18 months, I read every one, pulled out the recipes I really liked the sound of, and put them in small plastic address books that are 13-ring binders. I added recipes that I liked from magazines and books I saw in the store. I now have 23 of the address books and have them all organized.
So, when someone asks for a recipe for something, I first check the family favs (if I expect to find it there) and then go to the address books and on to the cookbooks, again depending on whether it sounds like something I would have copied down.
But I type them all into this website. I have shown a recipe a number of different ways in "here" depending on how I think about the recipe and the level of knowledge of the asker.
I rarely make a recipe according to the way it was written. I always add something more and change something in it depending on how it sounds. I can almost taste a recipe as I read it so if something (to me) doesn't sound good in the recipe, I change it.

When I first started here I found similar question constantly being answered and I opened a blank work sheet and typed a recipe that I use.
I then copy and paste the recipe.
Over the months as I have added more and more.
It surprises me how many time somebody asks how to make French Toast, or an omelets, cook a steak etc.
As I am in New Zealand I have had to Americanise some of the details, but I do throw in some of our odder recipes just for something totally different.

I've wondered that same thing myself. I have only a handful of recipes stored on the computer. But I know where I got all my others, either online or books. But I also type them out for an answer because I always make changes every time I make them. So the copy and pasted recipe wouldn't be the same anyway. I just take my time and type it in.

I've been cooking since I was a kid. Everything I learned was from people like Julia Childs, The Frugal Gourmet and as I got older, Emeril Lagasse and others.
Neither my mom nor her mom were good cooks. My mom is a damn good baker but cook, she is not. Ah. I remember the days growing up as a child. I'd go over to my grandmother's house for the weekend. Her idea of dinner was calling my Grandfather up at work anad asking him to stop at Kentcuky Fried Chicken on the way home. Easter at her house consisted of burnt ham and crunchy potatoes.
My mom? Ok. Well, there are a few things she can make good. Like Sweet & Sour sauce and Manicotti (similar to lasagna, it uses big tubes of pasta rather than sheets) along w/ her baked goods.
I love inventing recipes. Cheesecake is my pride and joy. So much in fact that no matter how much one begs and pleads for the recipe, I will not give it out. I will make you one but won't give you the recipe. But anyway, like I said, I love inventing recipes. I have alot that I have created on my own.
If someone requests a recipe and it is for something that is my own personal recipe, I will give the recipe. It's hard for me sometimes because all of my recipes are in my noggin. I have made them so many times that I know the recipe like the back of my hand and don't even think twice about needed measuerments and whatnot. Some don't even have measurements like my roasted garlic alfredo sauce or my Parmesan Chicken. If I have to type out the recipe, I actually have to sit for a bit and think it out. Which I think is why I have never stored them in my computer.
If I don't have a recipe of one of my own, I will look in one of my many cookbooks (I collect them) or will got to Foodnetwork.com if all else fails, I will google it.

Firstly, I am not a regular in this section...lol.
No, I do not save or scan from recipe books because I do not own any.
If and when someone asks for a recipe which I know, I would type it all down from my own memory, on the spot. Yes, I type as I know how the recipe goes. But, I do not use measurements but from observation to the amount of ingredients to be used.....

All my absolute favorites are in a box on recipes cards. Some of them have been handed down over the years and if they were ever to be lost they would probably stay that way. One of these day I will put them in the computer and have them on disk. In the meantime the recipe box would be one thing I'd grab if there was ever a fire - that and my sweet cat Chloe.

There's a real neat site that you can go to and actually put your own favourite recipes into "My Recipe Box". You do have to type in the ingredients, etc., but it only takes a short time to do that. Go to: www.chatelaine.com and on the left you will see the feature. It's free and not difficult to get started. I have a lot of my old favourites on this site and it's easier to find them this way than having to sort through piles of piles of my old recipe books.

Yeah, I wondered this too.
I type very basic, simple recipes and I've considered typing in the ones I use and give out the most to have them ready.
haven't done that yet.
don't seem to have the time. :o)
