To answer your first question.... Blonde Maybe?
Answer to the second question ...Tell said blonde that you dont have to really act like a dog when doing it doggy style.
Answer to the third question . Education will not help these people who think their dog has a period . They are so far out there you couldnt catch them in a butterfly net.

Well the heat cycle last around 20 or so days. Calling it a period is wrong because it isn't that. A period comes every month, as in women and different animal species. There is a time that the dog is passing blood, and a time when she is ovulating all in this time frame and doesn't happen again for 6 more months.
Most people calling the heat cycle of a dog a period, are inexperienced in dog breeding.
As far as educate others about this? If anyone wanting to breed their dogs should research the information and use the right terms. Most people have a female dog and think that they have to breed her and are not really knowing what they are doing.

I think in general dog owners aren't educated on a dog's sexual characteristics. You only figure this stuff out if you ask your vet, read dog books or Google for the information--a responsible breeder might tell you what a heat cycle is (and that you need to spay your pet-quality dog before then), but an irresponsible breeder doesn't care about educating you. Animal shelters usually won't give you this info either, since the dogs are usually altered already at adoption time.
I think in general a LOT of people's questions here could be answered by a simple Google, though.

Well of course its not the same...two different species a canine and a human....each has it's own menstrual cycle which is allowing for pregnancy to occur if unsafe sex happens. Each cycle is totally different but someone could say my dog is on it's period if they were really dense...generally it is always called a dogs heat cycle and a womens is called her period.
No I don't think education would decrease unplanned pregnancies in dogs anyways, there is enough education out there showing the unwanted puppies in shelters and ignorant owners still let their unfixed dogs roam the neighborhood then claim they cannot afford a vet bill to fix their pet...when there are plenty of ways to get help paying for the bill or at least reducing it some.

I imagine people having a better understanding of how a dog's heat cycle actually works would be helpful in preventing pregnancies. If people assume it's like a human "cycle" then they think it's unlikely pregnancy could occur during that time... wonder how many had their b itch get pregnant not knowing how this works?!

oh education to people on all animal subjects would be great, if we could find the people to do it, and stand up for free, there is a lot of information out there, if someone would be willing to seek it, but I guess people really don't want to be educated on it, i have over 50 different books at home that i use for everything on my dogs and I have had many dogs over the years, some i was able to save and some i couldn't but i think the key is education...

Simple - from the blood.
I suppose if you don't know much, it's seen as a convenient way to explain what's happening.
No idea whether it would decrease unplanned pregnancy, but it's probably good to educate anyway.

I really don't know why people think that. I just answered one of the 15,000 asked a day about that. I really don't think there's any way of educating people about this because many of the people on here are too hard headed to listen and they're always right and the people who really know about this stuff are wrong. I also don't think people would stop breeding their dogs because they're too stubborn and hard headed to realize that there are already too many dogs that need good homes, and they're just adding more competition.

ohhh it' not the same well that explains a lot(JK)
ohhhh wait the heat cycle is when a dog can get peggers...
and a women can at any given time(for the most part).
i'm not sure its been asked so many times. maybe the facts mean nothing to these people....which is no surprise to me.
no spay and neuter is out there all the time for a long time and it still hasn't gotten very far.

Why do they call it a period for humans? It's just a "slang" term that was developed for menstration. I don't really have that big a problem with it. I think menstration sounds stupid, I think "heat" is very non-descriptive, and estrus sounds too formal. Maybe it's just me, but I have better things to worry about - such as spaying the mutt before it gets another period!
