can i change the size of a sheet on microsoft word?

I want to make the sheet a square. how can i do this?

You mean physically change sheet size to square?
Have you purchased square paper or do you just want to print in a square?

If you have square paper:
open a Word document
click File
Page Setup
click Paper Size
here, click the down arrows to establish size, like 8" width, 8" height.

In 2007 you merely change the settings of the height and width of the document

Go to FILE, PAGE SETUP, there should be a tab saying Paper size or layout, you can change it from there. Hope this helped.
