mine disappeared for 6 hours today and I was very worried! I'm thinking of getting him a mobile so I can check up on him. Is this likely to embarrass him in front of his mates?

ha ha no way - can you really get tracking devices for them? that would be fab. He's chipped but I have a horrible feeling that will only come in useful if something bad happens to him

How old is your cat?? Don't forget the peer pressure.
I tried this with my cat but he just kept posting it back through the letter box with a mouse. Maybe if you tried a bluetooth headset he could hide it under his collar or something.
This could save alot of embarrassment. ;-)
At last resort use discipline, ground him/her.
Or as a final FINAL resort rip a GPS to bits and hide it in his/her collar.

Hi, My cat is just the same, i wish there was a tracking device so i knew where he was. Last night he went out,and i couldn't get him in, and when my son came home after being out (2am) he came into my room and asked where Bobby was, he could hear people lamping over the fields, (lamping is a powerful light that is turned on poor unsuspecting rabbits and then he sets his dogs on them) i have had one cat killed this way, and this particular person has killed a lot of cat's in our area. I hate him because he keeps getting away with it. Bobbie appeared this morning, thank goodness. So yours is a good idea of a mobile phone, i am sure Bobbie has a watch on i think it is tucked under his fur, because when i oversleep he bites the top of my head to get me up. He is very clever I love cat's and obviously so do you.

I have often wished my cats could carry one ... but then I remember All Those Times when Pippin and Brother Bob became fond of my land line phone ... they'd nudge off the receiver ... Pip-squeak would always go for the re-dial button. That was nearly always an international number. Bro. Bob liked pressing random numbers ....
The bills were huge.
I tried to teach them the value of money.
"Instead of bringing me mice, can't you nip into the neighbours' kitchens and pick up a few quid?" But they'd lost interest in paper long ago.
So, remember, if you give cats a mobile phone, it will be you paying the bill ... and cats being what they are are sure to phone around. A lot!

What a great idea lol wish i could track my cats movements especially when they've been gone all day i wouldn't have to go out looking for them and end up tripping over and hurting myself badly!! As happened 3 weeks ago when 1 of mine wandered off 1 and a half hours after i fell over she appears at the front gate looking out watching kids on bikes!! I Finally caught her after she gave me the run around and said to her it's ur fault mum hurt herself lol Now if she had a phone...

When he comes home from roaming around town looking for a girl friend (didn't want to use the other word) take him to the store and buy him the phone. He will really need it to keep in touch with all the new friends that he has picked up and you can keep track of him and make his visitation appointments or dates. His friends will envy him and look to their owners for one of their own.

HI
I would love to put a mini video camera on my cats so I could see where they go and what they do all day or night outside....
The only thing about that is if you hooked your cat up it could get tangled on a branch or something and choke....
I wouldn't worry too much, my cat disappeared in the winter in -15 C for 5 days!!! I thought for sure he was a goner, but he came home. I couldn't believe it and was so happy I cried....

He'd be a real 'cool cat'
Cats can wander a much as 10 miles radius. I read somewhere. If he is away a long time, he's probably hunting little girlie cats.
My advice: Don't spoil his chances by equipping him with a mobile. It may go off just as he is really enjoying himself.

Only if your cat is responsible - I know mine would run up enormous bills phoning joke lines etc - but then he is particularly dopey! Can't you just give him 20p for the phone box - and make him call home every hour??

He'll be the envy of the entire cat community! Hard to choose the color just right though. His masculinity might be offended if it were pink.
