How old are you? If you are under 40 go for a nice dress instead, trouser suits are a little too businessy unless you are at an age where most of your clothes are cut like that.

not a black trouser suit. Wear black trousers but with a nice top. Don't wear the suit because it will look like you are turning up at an office, not a wedding. However, make sure you find something you are comfortable in because if you are not you will not feel at ease all day. Its hard to decide what to wear at a wedding, good luck finding something lovely.

It is absolutly fine. My mother wore a really fancy black trouser suit to my december wedding and everyone commented that it was the best outfit at the wedding (after mine)
As long as you don't wear white I think it is fine.

It depends on whether you think that your friend would find that acceptable. If your friend is very traditional then perhaps a dress with a jacket in a more appropriate colour would be more suitable. If your friend is quite funky then a black trouser suit would be fine as they are quite fashionable this season according to i.D. and all of the other really good fashion magazines.

I have always been told that its rude to wear black or white at a wedding - I have been known to wear black trousers at an evening reception but i wouldn't wear them to the actual ceremony. That's just me though, plenty of people do. Though a black trouser suit is a bit funereal.

Black isn't really suitable for a wedding - unless you are only going to the reception.
You could wear the trousers with a bright top though!

As long as you dress it up a bit with some bright touches. A bright blouse, a flamboyant corsage (or brooch) and an eye catching hat, perhaps.
