No, I am a salter too. I have no colon and had a choice between taking this nasty stuff that tastes like baking soda or eating more salt. So now I add salt every time I eat.
I do think some people get offended by things like that. My mom, for example.
My dad used to salt everything first or stick ketchup on everything. (this is prior to my medical need for salt). So one day, she put a whole box of salt in the dinner to see what he thought. He grabed the salt shaker, salted his food and took a big bite. Needless to say, after that day he always tasted his food first.

It depends on who's doing the cooking. In my restaurant, we get offended because a lot of care is taken to ensure that a dish is perfectly seasoned, and how does a person know that if they don't even try it first? At home, I use a lot less salt because of my son so I don't get nearly as offended when my husband piles on the salt.
*edit* by the way, if you're looking at the health aspect of salt, start buying Celtic Sea Salt, it's completely natural, right from the earth and has a slight greyish colour, the celtic sea salt has many, many health benefits that no other salt can give you

Most people who like to cook today do not use salt as much as they used to, well aware that high sodium content is not healthy and can be dangerous for those on a sodium restricted diet. They pretty much leave it to the individual to salt to their preference, so I don't see any reason why a cook would be offended if you automatically salted.

I think I'd be more offended if you added salt after you'd tasted it. If you hadn't tasted it yet, it wouldn't be an insult to the way I seasoned the food. I know other people who like a lot of salt too.

Would I be offended? Slightly. I spent years as a cook, and know my seasonings. If you automatically put salt on food then I would have wasted my time making the dish for you.

no, because I use very little if any salt when I cook. that is why you have salt and pepper shakers on a table. I wouldn't dare critisize anyone that wanted to put salt on their food at my table, although in my mind, I would be thinking how unhealthy it is, but it's them, not me. I would have a say with my family, but not guests. My brother and his wife, salt everything, no matter if you salt and pepper a lot while cooking the meal. It's a habit with them, and they both have high blood pressure, and weight issues.

I think I would, but only because I have a large collection of herbs and spices that I use regularly to make a dish taste exactly the way I want.
If after tasting it, you put alot of salt on, I wouldn't be bothered as much because each person has their personal tastes.

Nope, not at all. Adding salt to food is just habit for many people. The majority of people in today's society aren't going to think it might offend you or be a "diss" to your cooking.

It is considered bad manners/rude. To taste first and then add salt says "Wow, it's good, but I prefer more salt." To add salt first says "I don't know about your cooking. I better salt it to make sure it tastes halfway decent."
