Your BoA card, as piddly as it is, is your key to getting a higher credit limit. You can't grow any faster than that (unless you go to a loan shark and they do exist). Plus with the credit crunch, banks are putting the screws to customers with established history and good credit. Best you can do is get a bunch of small ones that are easy to get thru HSBC, Direct Merchant's (they give these out thru Apple, Best Buy), First Premier (really crappy low limit, but guaranteed), Walmart, Sams Club Discover (not the regular discover), Paypal Buyer Credit (these last three are offered thru GE Money Bank). If you're in college, you should apply for the AmEx student card or the Citi student card. It takes a year (not six months) to build.
If you pay all your bills on time religiously and keep your usage to about 30%, in a year, you'll get better offers. This is how I built my credit. Started with small crappy cards and in a year, got two 5000 limit cards, so...that's how it's done.

When you start out with no credit history I don't see any bank giving you a card higher than that...the most you may get is 1000 but usually they all start at 500 and after a few months of good payments being made on time you will be able to request and get a increase. They are not going to give out a high limit to a unproven credit record, that's just bad business sense.

You get high limit credit cards by having a consistent, on time credit history. If you have no history, $600 is a pretty good limit.
Use the card and pay it in full every month. In about 6 months to a year, they will automatically raise your limit.

Unless you earn a LOT of money and have an impeccable credit history, you're not going to get one. Stick with smaller-limit cards until you build up income and a history, and try again.
