I agree with albert; I'm just adding a little more detail.

There is a part of the nervous system called the Autonomic Nervous System which controls physical reactions that are not consciously controlled.

The Sympathetic branch controls "fight or flight" responses like anger and fear.

The Parasympathetic branch controls "feed or breed"--sexual response, digestion, hunger.

Anxiety is a normal part of the Sympathetic nervous system. However, it seems to get out of control where an individual has excessive anxiety with little or no outside stimulus to cause such as a physical threat. This is presumed to be an "imbalance" where the neurotrasmitters/hormones such as Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, Adrenaline and Noradrenaline make us overact. This may be caused by a physical illness, stress, trauma, or there may be no known cause.

The individual may be lucky enough to have the anxiety resolve on its own, or they may need medication and/or psychotherapy to help control the symptoms. Sometimes simple things like adequate exercise, rest and deep breathing can help.

I guess a sociological cause might be if someone finds himself living in another country or having to deal with certain situations or people's behavior that he is not prepared to deal with. For example, I went to Jamaica once, and it made me very nervous because the local people did not seem to have the same American idea of "personal space." They tended to stand very close to me and it bothered me because I tended to interpret that as threatening. I'm sure the Jamaicans didn't mean to do that, they were just selling stuff and were very pushy about trying to get tourists to buy it. I'm just not used to being treated like that and it was very hard for me to adjust to people I don't know standing that close to me when it wasn't on a crowded elevator or some other place where it might be necessary.

Depression runs in my loved ones (6 out of eight children were identified and medicated) I suffered dangerous my freshman 12 months of school. I ended up falling by the wayside within the core of the semester and relocating again dwelling. I attempted 3 one-of-a-kind drugs earlier than discovering one who labored. Through counseling alongside tons of fasting and praying I was once in a position to get off the remedy and serve a assignment. I have not had any signs on account that. But I would no longer even assume looking to serve a assignment whilst going by way of what I did at school. There was once one Elder on my assignment that had mild signs of nervousness and despair. He labored with the Mission President and an LDS psychologist and was once in a position to stick out. Most missionaries did not comprehend him, however he and I had a few well middle-to-middle talks. I might definitly you need to be supportive. It is an overly truly factor and is horrible to head by way of. I might endorse getting support as quickly as viable. Do no longer allow it cross on untreated.

is this a school project of a genuine question?

Anxiety is a normal human state which prepares the body for "fight or flight".
A lot of the physiacl symptoms, such as dry mouth and butterflies are due to the body shifting resources from digestion - which you dont need to run away - to thing which are necessary for you to survive a crisis.
in the modern world there are many thing which trigger an anxiety reaction which do not threaten our immediate survival. they are usually things which are outside our immediate control.
Psychological factors affect this anxiety state. fear of a particular situation; going to work; spiders; or going out of the house; its different for everyone.
hope that helps
