We were on the way to a band competition when she told me. The night before at a football game we were performing at, she had been really sick and I thought it was just heat exhaustion. And then she told me she was anorexic. I went and told my band director because I was really afraid of what would happen to her. I feel so horrible now, I can't figure out why. The way home from the competition I felt really sick and worried. I did the right thing, didn't I?

The reason you feel horrible is because kids have a "don't tell" mantra. You did the right thing and hopefully your friend will be helped. If you hadn't told the band director, who knows, a year from now you might be feeling worse because your friend could be dead. These things shouldn't be happening to children. Now you passed it to the band director...let's hope he does not drop the ball.

I used to be in band BTW, How did your band do at the competition?

Yes, you did the right thing. I hope your band director will do something about it (like talk to her parents).
Your friend might get upset/angry at you at the moment but the most important thing is for her to get treated and live healthy, long life and hopefully later she will thank you for that.
Anorexia is a mental disease and people who suffer from it cant get well on their own.
