“And the daughter of any priest/pastor, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.” --- Leviticus 21:9

A priest/pastor's daughter, if found to have lost her virginity without marriage, can receive the death penalty, but in the form of incineration.

“And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she [is] with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.” ---- Genesis 38:24

“Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.” --- (Deuteronomy 22:21)

Because Israel was God's chosen people,He gave them life, provided for them, and wanted them to walk in the right pathways. They didn't.(We don't)Fire is how we all will some day be destroyed if we do not follow God's paths. But another thing about fire,is that it also cleanses. You remember how they speak of refining silver? How by burning it with fire removes the dross?God does that to each of us,that's what trials and tribulations are:they represent the fire in our lives.
I expect that you wanted a more specific answer, but I can only write what I know. But I know this too,God isn't through educating either one of us.May He richly bless you in knowledge, and all good things.

dueteronomy is s suspect book. it was used to brainwash young king josiah to go on a pat buchanan like yawheh rampage to rid the tribes of religious freedom and unite them under a yawheh banner. this also is probably the reason Mary and Joseph came up with the immaculate conception story, if her father was a high priest it would make sense wouldn't it?

If you had continued the Deuteronomy ch22 quote one more verse you would notice that MEN are also expected to have standards of sexual behaviour.
If you had continued to the end of the chapter you would have spotted one safeguard for the woman.
Are you familiar with 'Jesus and the woman caught in the act of adultery'? (John 8:3)

Did you notice that Tamar was not, in fact, burnt, and that her father-in-law conceded that she had more integrity than he did?
She also went on to become an ancestress of Jesus Christ.

Now, here is an odd thing...a person in our time, ADMITTING that he thinks "honor killings" are a "good thing"...
Depressing.

God's revelation of His holy character is progressive. He reveals his hatred for sin in the Old Testament. Marriage is a picture of the relationship between Christ and his redeemed people, the Church. Unfaithfulness in marriage is an illustration of the unfaithfulness of the Church toward God.
