Even if salvation were more than just a pipe dream, the Bible contradicts itself as to how one is saved. Paul says you are saved by faith, but Jesus said to follow the commandments and sell all you have and give it to the poor to be saved. He also said he came to save mankind - implying everyone would be saved, and in other places he made comments that it's nearly impossible to be saved.
