I wet the bed for several years even after I was 16!! I was embaressed by it and often wondered what was wrong with me. My mom took me to the dr. and nothing was wrong with me. I couldn't help it and couldn't control it but now that I'm 24, I think it's because I was such a heavy sleeper and just didn't know during the night that I had to go.

There is no need to reprimand him for wetting as he is most likely not doing it consciously. Many children do get to dryness between the ages of 5 and 6. However, if she'd like to use something, she can consider using a bedwetting alarm. You mentioned she's used a buzzer before, but what type. Not all work as well as others. There's a site: www.bedwettingstore.com that sells many different types of alarms and she can also call them if she has further questions. Aside from that, could her son have any allergies she doesn't know about? It can be showing up as wetting.

This is common, especially in boys. It may take years for him to outgrow the problem... some kids have small bladders, sleep deeply, etc. If he has been checked out by a doctor, and I assume this has happened from your statement 'there is nothing medically wrong', the best thing she can do is be supportive and wait it out. Pull-Ups are a very effective way of containing everything, and will help keep beds dry. There are some medications on the market that work well for some; she may want to speak to his doctor about it. She is right to not "tell him off" - he can't help it. As the parent of a 10-year-old nighttime bed wetter who has tried absolutely everything, I can say in no uncertain terms no child would choose this - it gets more and more difficult for them as they get older. Hang in there!

I say, don't worry about it. And further, count your blessings, as there are much worse things that he could have. He's only 5, so there's a good chance he'll grow out of it soon. And if not, it's still not that big a deal. I have 3 boys, ages 10 and twin 6 year olds. They all wet the bed, and just wear Goodnites. In the morning, they throw out the wet Goodnite and get on with their day.

My daughter is 6 and she still wets the bed. I've also tried everything. I took her to the Dr. and he just said that she has an immature bladder and that along with having a small bladder and being a heavy sleeper = bedwetter. He said that it could last a couple more years yet :(.

I would try to keep waking him to go to the bathroom and keeping the drinks to a limit. Make sure she hase a waterproof mattress cover to aid in cleanup and perhaps use Goodnights or get cloth pants for bedwetters.) My five year old son quit wetting the bed when he didn't want to wear pull-ups to bed! Wish your sister luck!

it's good that she does'nt tell him off for it..it would make no sense to!..he has no idea he is wetting the bed at night...what would there be something to be upset about.

Lots of kids..and adults has problems with thier bladdder..and will wet the bed. It is very embarrasing to them. So it needs to be dealed with in a kind consderate manner.

Stress for a child can cause this..or it may be..he has a weak bladder. She can buy some sheets to help keep him dry is he has an accident..or put a rubber sheet on. There are pull ups for older kids who have the problem..but..that is a hard one..the last thing you want to do is make the child feel worse then he does.

Children at this age who still wet the bed need their parent's support and reassurance, not yelling and shame. This is NOT uncommon, and not a behavior problem. 15-20% of five year olds still wet the bed for a number of reasons, mostly having to do with underdeveloped bladder.
I would suggest getting the pants to prevent messes made for this very issue you can find in stores like Walmart.
Here's also a few tips:
*No fluids past 7 pm
*Have the child use the bathroom before bed
*use of the formentioned pants, with a rubber sheet under the regular sheet to save on bedding.
good luck

Well she has tried almost everything. Did any of them make any difference? If so then stick with that one.

Don't worry it is perfectly normal. My brother still wets the bed at age 10. According to my mother it goes in cycles. If a child doesn't stop wetting the bed at about 3 then they will stop at around 7 but if the don't stop then they won't stop till they are about 14.

Good luck!

I wouldnt worry about it too much, I was a bed wetter at nite until my early teen years and wore diapers to bed, my son is 5 and wets the bed and I have him in pampers size seven diapers. They make diapers in all different sizes from little ones to adults for this reason (pullup style or tape tab style). Just like someone else said, you will be surprised how many children wet the bed and wear diapers. About two weeks ago I went to Walmart to get more diapers and they were all out of the size seven diapers and they usually carry a large stock so that just goes to show you, many kids are in them.

She just needs to wait. 5 isn't even remotely old enough for this to be a major worry yet, it's very common for kids, boys especially, to still wet the bed at this age. Put him in pullups at night for a while and take the pressure off.
