They've been told this over and over and over again.

They keep repeating it either because they are too stupid to understand that no scientist says we evolved from monkeys, because they are too scientifically illiterate to know that the creationist frauds they've been listening to are LYING to them, or because they feel more confident in attacking a StrawMan than they are in dealing with what science actually says and the evidence it has.

Often, you will find yourself dealing with all three factors.

Creationists will never learn. They are too blinded by their mediocre theology which depends on miracles and "God did it" explanations.

It doesn't matter to me what you want to call it. We didn't "evolve" from anything. Not a monkey, not an ape, not an ostrich, not an earthworm, not a fish, or a sea lion, or anything else! We were created by God, ABOVE THE ANIMALS, and He gave us DOMINION OVER THE ANIMALS. I can give you scripture for this, but what would that do? you would just scoff at it, and I won't cast my pearls before swine!
If you want to think you came from everything else you see, and that you have no purpose in your life, and that when you die, it's the end of everything, then go ahead and think it. But, I know where I came from, and I don't need any self-proclaimed Einstein to tell me any different. You will find out in the end. You better look for the rock you crawled out from under in the first place, to hide under it again, because you're gonna need it when Jesus comes back! The Bible says that will happen. But, then, nothing will protect you, not even your so called "intelligence!" I will see you on judgment day. I will be one of those standing on the RIGHT side of the Lord!
You can call us freaks or whatever you want to. What you think of us makes no difference in the world. We know you hate us. It doesn't matter.
what I don't get is why do you keep hanging out in the religious category? Why don't you find some nice unreligious place to hang out? If we anger you that much, why do you keep coming here? There must be some reason.

Humans and all the other apes and monkeys (simians) evolved from prosimians which there are species of today (Lemurs) I'm sure if you say the common ancestor of apes and monkeys it might not be a modern monkey but would look a lot like one. And the common ancestor of all apes would look similar (but not exactly) to a modern ape. The earliest line that became humans look basically like a walking chimpanzee. So I dont worry about getting to technical about common ancestor when someone make the we evolved from apes argument when in fact we are apes.

Because it does -- the agreed upon common ancestor of humans and the "great apes" was also an ape (dryopithicus, the "oak ape") -- well, actually, it doesn't imply it but state it explicitly.

What I wonder: Why do so many people who at least half-way understand science make a fool of themselves by letting themselves get pulled into playing the fundies ridiculous word games?

Actually we *are* apes.

The reason we're classed as apes is that there is no valid way to group all the other apes together that doesn't also apply to humans. In other words, whatever criteria you use to define what is an ape, in order to include chimpanzees, gorillas, orangs and gibbons, humans will also fit those criteria. Indeed, chimpanzees are more closely related to humans than to gorillas, and gorillas are more closely related to humans and chimpanzees than they are to orangs, so any classification that separated humans out from those other apes would not make any sense.

Because there is a whole INDUSTRY (Christianity) whose BUSINESS it is to create generations of adults who are, at once, gullible, irrational, willfully ignorant, self-deluded, intellectually dishonest, droolingly stupid and hypocritical... and willing to tithe 10% for the privledge of having their cognitive dissonance held in check through regular doses of pious and holy bullshit.

Religious 'shepherds' KNOW that their 'flock' (sheeple) are scientifically ignorant and incapable of critical thinking... because they've been PROGRAMMED to be ignorant. They KNOW that they are suspicious of 'scientific' sources , and find them to be intimidating and incomprehensible... because they've been CONDITIONED to distrust them. These puppet-masters KNOW that their flock (victims) will seek their 'knowledge' from 'trusted' sources... these very-same puppet-masters. When the sheeple hear things like 'scientists claim that humans and apes shared a common ancestor, in the distant past', they experience 'cognitive dissonance'... this information is in conflict with the 'truth' that they have believed for their whole lives. So... where do they go to resolve this cognitive dissonance?... Scientists?... NO! They go to their 'trusted' sources... the sources who KNOW that they have been taught WHAT to think... they have not been taught HOW to think. Sources who KNOW that they can lie, obfuscate, misrepresent with impunity... with absolutely NO RISK that their minions will seek out independent, peer-reviewed corroborating information.

They do their jobs very well indeed... as can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xKDKq_PPbk&mode=related&search=

This is a good news/bad news sort of thing. The GOOD news is that these Christian mind-control tecniques... perfected and refined over the past 1,700 years... only work on people who do not have the critical-thinking skills and reasoning power to penetrate the logical fallacies, lies, misrepresentations and deceit upon which this fraud is constructed. The BAD news (and it's REALLY bad news) is that this accounts for 85%+ of the adult population of the USA.

Oh, crap... we're doomed.

Hi,
Are we all playing scientist again today kids!? I have a great idea, let's all pretend to know exactly what happen yesterday and write it down and discuss it like grow up adults. My guess is each and everyone of you would have a differing opinion of what yesterdays events were. Most would conflict with the others opinion and there would be divisions created due to the stubbornness of each others convictions concerning your expertise on the matters. The truth is none of you know for sure what is truth or fantasy. Both sides want to claim victory due to the dogma preached on both sides of the evolutionary debate. Most Christians have the data wrong which makes them look foolish, and all evolutionist have their data wrong which makes them just plain wrong. I hate to sound demeaning here, but all of you need to go back to school and relearn chemistry, physics, and higher math so you can stop playing the "I think I'm smarter than you game" in order to promote a know falsehood. We did not evolve, and never will evolve beyond the limited programed genetic code within each and every organism. The only way to form a new creature is to create it through genetic engineering..... which means it will also be created. The difference is, we will just use already created parts from already created beings (creatures) to refashion them into different beings (creatures). Now all you little Frankenstein wanna B's get back to work.

Because evolution scares them. But they can't come up with an argument against the real theory, so they've made up their own, which any muppet can rip to shreds. Having ripped it to shreds, they claim that it was Darwin's theory, even though it's not even vaguely similar.

Why do they keep saying this? It's a common type of logical fallacy called a straw man argument. They create a position that is easy to dispute and then attribute that position to their opponent. They do this because, although it's an illogical argument it can make for good rhetoric for people to whom logic is not important.

Because the "religious freaks" have been doing this for ages since the beginning of time, they can't stop denying it now..
