If you can wash your cat put a few drops of Dawn dish soap in his shampoo and give him a bath. We tried it and it works.

You haven't done anything that's actually going to WORK. Flea collars do not work. Washing your cat will not do anything, except make the fleas wet.

You need to get some actual, proper treatment from a vet, i.e a spot-on like Frontline, Revolution or Advantage. Don't resort to getting any of the cheaper products from pet stores because they don't work and many are harmful - especially Hartz!!

While you're in the vets getting the stuff, pick up a spray for your house as well because you need it - Indorex, Acclaim, Staykil or Skoosh, or anything they sell.

All fleas on your cat will be dead within 24 hours of applying Frontline - just make sure you get it on the SKIN of the animal, not the fur. There's also a tablet called Capstar available which will kill all fleas within a few hours, but regular use of Frontline will prevent you ever having to see fleas again.

"Freaking out" is not the way a flea infestation presents itself. A cat with fleas will usually scratch a bit and then move on to other things; a cat with extreme sensitivity to fleas, especially flea saliva, will scratch and worry at the same spot, causing losses in fur, particularly at the base of the tail, and scabbing.

It sounds like your cat has some other health problem in addition to fleas, or has been getting into a toxic substance that he shouldn't. You should take him to the vet for a professional opinion.

you have to kill the fleas on the animal AND the fleas in the house at the same time to break the cyle.
Do the spot on stuff to kill fleas on the animal and spray house.
we use a "Flea Fogger" which is very good made by Bob martin (in Uk)
You put an aerosol can in each room and spray then leave the room and the can continues to spray. you have to leave room for 2 hours before you go back in. Treats carpets and soft furnushings.
Do it when you go out to work, locking cats out of rooms, and when you get back house should be clear of fleas. Use 1 can in each room. It works out quite expensive but at least the flming fleas are dead!!

Good grief! Why haven't you done something useful, like get some Frontline on him? The poor thing!
First, hustle your butt off to the vet and get at least a 3-month supply of Frontline! Better yet, take your cat there for an emergency flea treatment!
Next, get some flea killing powder for carpets and thoroughly treat the carpet and upholstery in your house! How are you living there?
Third, for fast relief, give your cat some canned cat food with garlic powder (not garlic salt!) mixed in it, daily. He will eat it, and the fleas can't stand the garlic smell. It won't kill them, but they'll bail off of him.
Flea collars, at best, are useless (as you've discovered). At worst, they'll make your cat very sick! Never use anything you can get at the grocery store or mass merchandiser to treat your cat. Go to the vet for safe, effective products.
Lastly, either learn how to properly take care of your pet, or find a better owner for him!

The only way to treat fleas on cats is to get them some Advatage from your vet or online. We have been using it on our cats for years and they couldn't survive without it, either could our household

It has been proven safe and effective. All you do is snip the cap and squeeze the gel on the top neck area, so they can't lick it off.

well you probably have to put flea powder in all of your carpets. but the trick is you can't breath it (so wear a mask) and your cat can't breath it. (neither can anyone else breath it) in order to keep your cat from breathing this powder you have to go room by room. keep him in one room and put powder in a different room. we had to do this with my cat. we got him off the street and he brought the fleas with him. it worked out though. if you have an up-stairs and a down-stairs then you can put your cat up while you do down. then you'll have to wait a while. then you can put him down-stairs while you do up. hope this helps!

Mary had a little lamb with fleas as white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went the fleas were sure to go.
