what do i do if my samsung dvd player has background sound but no dialogue?

i can hear clearly the directors comments and other languages but not in english. It sounds all muffled

Looks like your DVD player is set up as having a full surround system but you only have two speakers. In a 5.1 system, dialog is from the center speaker, which probably you don't have.

So, on your DVD player Setup menu, make sure you define you have only stereo out.
On your DVD Disc menu (Language and Audio options) make sure you select the language you understand and audio output matches the features of your DVD player.
