Hi Folks,
I have just returned from a Thanksgiving Service at St. Albans Cathederal. No, I am not a devout Christian, and hardly ever attend, but that was a special do.
I was ticked off by a member of Clergy for saying "So Be It", instead of "Amen".
Well, I explained, that is what Amen means.
Had him flummoxed and looking for a reference book.
Oh dear, have I sent the church into turmoil ?

Hello Bob
I would like to apologise on behalf of Jesus Christ for your experience.
If Jesus had been there to greet you He would have probably done something quite different by thanking you for participating in an act of worship - worth ship - giving worth to the meeting you went to by being there and, if you did, giving worth to God by speaking to Him.
It is regrettable that Jesus is hard to find in churches because secularism took over when the Bible was compiled.
Never mind. He's coming back soon to knock His church back into shape!
In the meantime, SHOUT 'SO BE IT' to every cardinal you meet! For, 'SO BE IT' will be dropping out of the heavens soon to rebuke His wayward flock!

no, its when you say RAmen they get worried (church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster- AKA Pastafarianiusm lol).
Funny however, though used in Hebrew, Arabic, and Greek to mean so be it, - The only language which offers a clear explanation and confirms the meaning of “Amen” is the Berber language.
In Kabyle (one of the various dialects of Berber), there is the phrase “am-in” that means “like that”. However, if “am-in” is put in the context of a prayer, it means “so be it”; with “it” referring here to what has been said before.
It has also been proposed that the religious term Amen is a derivative of the name of an Egyptian god, Amun - Did Cap't Mossy get there to late to save the children from picking up a few pagan habits?

Having read the irreverent and silly comments above, all I can say is, in answer to your question is this:
The correct thing to do is not to draw attention to yourself but remember who you are there to honour.
Amen is the accepted form of reply to a prayer. If you want your own audience you should be on a stage.

That's right. Amen means So Be It.
What kind of church did you actually go to?

Right. No clergy person has any idea what amen means. Are you serious?

That's hardly surprising. How many Christians do you know who know anything about their own religion apart from the nativity?

correct things to say in church:
when the preist sais "this is his body" or whatever
call out really loudly:
"SAID THE ACTRESS TO THE VICAR"
repeat this at any point when something remotely suggestive of double-entendre is said.

They are all a bunch of charlatans praying to a non existant entity. Don't worry about it. Jump around in there saying anything you want - nothing will happen.
While I'm at it, you Muslim dudes should start eating pork, you're missing out. Oh yes, and stop bombing people while you're at it.
