I opened the gait yesterday while I was home and he split within about 3 minutes. I always water him and feed him in the morning, and he hangs out in the yard and eats then we usually head for a walk on a leash and on Saturdays he gets a bath. Not yesterday. He disappeared and I searched everywhere for him. I called the neighbors and notified everyone I was hunting for my dog. I even called the local grocer to let them know he disappeared. I took my truck to his favorite swimming holes and he was just gone.
Finally last nite, I called the police and they said he was turned in at about 4 pm. He is in the pound. What do I have to do to get him back? He is tagged.. No one called

If this was your child, you wouldn't be wasting time on this board...
Don't wait too long... some pounds will euthanize animals if not claimed or adopted.
You should have been notified by the pound, or at least whoever turned him in, that your dog was found. I agree with the microchipping as well; most shelters/pounds have scanners. But if you weren't called and the tags were still on the dog when he was found, chances are the same would happen if he was chipped.
Then again, maybe the collar is missing, so the tags would be gone as well.
Go get your dog before it's too late.............

Go to the pound in question. Tell them you want your dog. There might be a fee of $30 or more. Each time he lands in the pound, the price will be higher.
Microchip him. It's better than tags by itself.
The pound might have microchips available for as little as $10. Ask them.

possibly no longer. right this is why... It takes time to technique an adoption application effectively and punctiliously. in case you would be living in an house, as an occasion, they must understand that your landlord helps pets. own references additionally ought to be checked, besides as a vet reference, in case you have owned a puppy until now. A criminal historic past examine can be completed, just to confirm you haven't any longer any historic past of animal abuse or forget. And, enable us to no longer forget a house pass to - that's to confirm animal hoarders and outdoor breeders, etc at the instant are not adopting the canines. So, as you will locate, all of this takes time and that is all interior the perfect interest of the canines. you spot, rehoming is extremely stressful to the canines...you haven't any longer any theory! And, that could be a reality that the greater cases an animal is rehomed, the fewer adoptable that is, using all the behavioral problems that upward push up from the strain. as a result, the final objective for the seem after is to confirm the canines is purely no longer returning, and could stay luckily ever after with you. My suggestion to you is to pass to a seem after close on your new abode, once you have moved in and settled down. each seem after is distinctive, yet like I stated above, you possibly would be unable to convey abode domestic dog in one day. it would possibly no longer additionally be one week, consistent with how short-exceeded the seem after is. it is not something own, and in case you somewhat choose for a canines that badly, it won't be a difficulty besides. value will possibly variety between shelters, with city shelters often being the main inexpensive. yet assume to spend everywhere from $50-$500. At any fee, I commend you for adopting a canines. regrettably, there somewhat are not adequate people such as you in this international! stable success!

They may not be open on Sunday, or only have limited hours. Call them and find out.
You WILL have to pay a fine - But that varies by County / State, so there is no way to find out besides calling them.

You have to prove the dog has his rabies shot and the cost will vary depending on how long they've had the dog. In my area it is $35-$60 to get back a dog but your area might be different.
