I've read that some symptoms of bi-polar include constant writing and telling great stories of what apparently appears to them (usually spiritual encounters).
My bf is bi-polar, and I used to think that his stories and writings were fascinating and very interesting. But after hearing them over and over again, I've started to feel like telling him to just shut up... that I no longer care about his stories, no matter how much he believes that he is the son of god or some kind of heaven-sent angel... etc.
Please let me know if gone or going through a similar experience and how to handle it.
Thanks.

You need to make a decision on if you want to keep seeing someone who suffers from this medical condition. Because sister, this behavior will keep coming back if he goes off his meds or they stop working or if he suffers a relapse.

You need to understand that your position in his life if you so choose to stay is one of support and advocacy. If he is unable to realize that he is in a manic state....then it's up to you to point it out...make sure he seeks immediate help...and support him in his recovery.

Please check out www.dbsalliance.com It's a site for comsumers and families that deal with bi-polar.

Also seek out a support group in your area. www.supportwork.org is a great site for that too.

That kind of implies his meds aren't working. He's obviously a little manic at the moment with the grandiosity, etc. (NOT schizophrenic).

I know it's difficult to go through something like this, my sister's bipolar. You have to make sure that your bf isn't only relying on you. He needs a network of people around him. It'll be hard on you because you spend a lot of time with him. Make sure you have the support you need as well. Remember why it is you're with him and that'll help get you through the bad times. Think about how he's feeling. This isn't really him talking at the moment, it's the mania. He'll regret it all when he comes down, if he even remembers.
But the key point is make sure you have people around YOU who can help you through it. Someone to talk to and a shoulder to cry on.

I have bipolar 2 and thankfully I don't seems to have the delusions your boy seems to be experiencing. I would encourage him to get immediate psychiatric help (meds/therapy combo) and when he goes off into la la land, bring him back to reality by telling him the no holds barred truth that he isn't Jesus or Chris Martin or whatever and then tell him what you do love about him without the illusions he has built up about himself. But this will only work so far because these manic psychotic states are real medical problems and he will only respond so far to your attempts to shut him up or reason with him. best I can offer, sorry.

It is very hard to not get impatient with a person like this, but you have to keep something very important in mind. They cannot help what they are going through. The Bible even says, to put yourself in their shoes if you can, and see how you would like others to treat you. It is good that he is writing things down, encourage him to keep doing so, but tell him that it is hard for you sometimes, as you are not relating to what he is truly going through, and to try to understand if you grow short on patience. Encourage him to get some help, to make it easier on 'himself'...and it will help you also. If you really care about this guy, stand by him, through thick and thin, He will love you for it in the end.

I know an older man that thinks he make electricity for free and so on. What I did was sent him 10 emails showing him it was all fraud. He stopped mentioning it after that ever again on the phone. No one should have to listen if you do you are just feeding the fire. You might email him that its all lies.

I was engaged to an undiagnosed bipolar girl. It was very hard. We recently broke up since she is isolating herself now. I don't remember any "writing" or "story" problem ever though.

If he's writing stories saying he's the son of God, that sounds more like schizophrenia than bi-polar.

The bi polars really need to be with their own kind. If you are a winner-player I can understand why you are attracted to them. Maybe you need to keep to your group and use the second vocabulary and hand signs. Remember keep the circle unbroken...Cheers.
