Besides checkups when I was a toddler and younger I have never been to the doctor because my family does not have medical insurance and could not afford it. I am 17, just started college and want to go, to be on the safe side, to make sure I am healthy. My mom says I do not need to go because nothing is technically wrong with me. I still want to go though, because I think it would be good and money is not an issue for me anymore. But....should I????????

There is nothing wrong with going for a yearly checkup. That way if there is a problem in anyway , it will be detected early and beable to treat properly. Now this is not saying there is anything wrong with you.. It is merely a precautionary check up. You seem very bright .

Since it seems as if it's been quite some time since you've been looked at by a doctor, you should probably have a physical workup just to make sure there's nothing wrong that may not be symptomatic. Sometimes we can have health problems that aren't obvious. It's good to get checked out every few years just to make sure things are alright - and to catch any problems early on before they can get worse. Also good to make sure you get your boosters, like Tetanus shots, which should be done every 10 years.

It's also good to find a permanent doctor and develop a relationship with him/her, in case you do need to see one for a sickness or injury at some point down the road - they'll already have your paperwork and medical history on hand, and know who you are, so you can receive better and faster care.

If money isn't an issue now, I'd say do it. No reason not to.

Yes, you should go for a check up. The doctor's staff will take blood and urine samples, check your blood pressure, height, weight and temperature. The doctor will give you an examination which could include eyes, ears, throat, reflexes, abdominal and more.
You need to know that you do not have diabetes, hepatitis, anemia, infection of the lymph nodes...any number of disorders that easily go un-noticed by the patient. I don't mean to frighten you, I'm sure you are fine - but a responsible adult takes care of her health. It is time you were responsible.

If you haven't done so already, you need to talk to some type of health professional about immunizations. It's quite possible you haven't had some shots that you should have for college.
If you're sexually active, you'll need to start having Pap smears/pelvic exams.
Past that, there's not much need. You're at a point in your life at which you're at low risk for anything other than accidents.
