My guess, but I am no professional, is that it is things that stand out against a backdrop.
Like a lamp post against the sky or a blank wall.

I think in photography and other design disciplines isolated can mean that it does not seem to relate to its surroundings it could also mean as the previous poster said some thing on its own.

but it does not necessarily have to mean something on its own

e.g. a conservatively dressed man looking serious walking past a group of young happy people could be considered to be isolated.
