Dear Brother

Thanks for the Question.

Muslims wear that typical hat or cap as it was the Tradition of their Holy Prophet peace be on him and he used to wear it all the time during performing prayers and other times too.

As per our belief any Action or Deed done by our Holy Prophet if copied and followed by Muslims earns them virtues and it also gives them an identity of being Muslims.

I hope it satisfies your Question.

Its just a cultural thing which started off in one country and then spread amongst the Muslim world and now gives the men some form of a religious identity like the headscarves and veils for the women.

Just want to add to this, not always worn in prayer either by the men.

IDENTITY maybe on 3rd or 4th reasons. CLEANNESS would be on 2nd or 3rd place. The first would be SUNNAH or Prophet's disciplines of which ones would know the use of it ONLY when ones dare to practise it.

A hat or head covering for a male when praying indicates unforgiven sin.

They really do not know what they are doing do they?
