I've heard glasses change your face, like make your eyes smaller and nose wider. Is that true?

I also heard your eyes get worse through glasses. It's kind of true. I started wearing glasses and in a few days, I really couldn't see without them.

The glasses do not change your face any more than a new hairstyle does. Your eyes may appear to be smaller to anyone looking at you because they are looking at your eyes through the lenses. Just as glass in certain shapes and thicknesses can magnify or reduce the size of an image (think of binoculars looked through correctly, then looked through backwards), the lenses in your glasses can seem to change the size of your eyes.

Certain shape/color/style of frames can seem to make your nose wider depending upon how they sit on your face. Also, some color frames are more flattering to some complexions than to others.

Your eye care professional will tell you if the glasses are needed full time or possibly just for reading or distance wear. If you need glasses full time, wear them! There is nothing pretty or healthy about squinting.

Your eyes may need a new prescription each year. That is not because you have become dependent on your glasses. It is because your eyes can change each year.

Glasses are a fashion accessory. There are many really great fun frame styles available.
