There is a weasel living in our barn ... I've seen it myself. My 3 year old, declawed cat got tore up pretty badly by something last week and the vet thought it could be a raccoon or a weasel but definitely not a Fisher. The cat's okay but refuses to go outside...which is a good thing! No one around here's heard of a weasel attacking a cat though. Anyone out there ever hear of such a thing happening???

My cat had two pucture teeth wounds on his tail, fur stripped off the tail, off his head, and all four paws were injured by scratch type marks, as well as some wounds to his sides and lower back area. The vet thinks he fought bad really hard and finally got away. The teeth marks were definitely not from another cat...two big and wide apart and right through the tail. Yes, I agree with you...he shouldn't have been outside and now he's inside to stay... along with my other two cats. A weasel is such a small creature of I've heard they're very vicious and of course they're bigger cousin, the fisher, is a very vicious animal, but the vet was sure it wasn't a fisher or he won't be here today.

A weasel is designed to take out anything from a mouse to a rabbit. Since cats are the size of rabbits, yes it's possible. The weasel will be fearless doing this and has very sharp teeth, but the cat can retaliate, if he can catch the weasel without getting further bitten. It's possible the cat was shocked enough that he only wanted to get away.

I know cats and weasels are in the same category in regards to being predators and therefore they may hunt the same things in your barn. So you can see this could lead to some issues. Not to mention these animals have a tendency to be territorial. Anything is possible. Also I have see 2 cats go at it and they can do quite a bit of damage to each other. Especially if your cat is declawed.

You know anything is possible your cat may have been trying to play and the weasel thought it may have needed to defend its self after all it is a wild animal. Or you cat may have run into something else even a stray cat.
