YES!!! Big fan here and I'm from the area too. It was all over the local papers. First three pages of the paper were about the fight not sure what that person was talking about. Kelly! Kelly! was the headline of the Vindicator. Jermaine Taylor was an excellent fighter as well which made the accomplishment that much better he clearly defeated the BEST in the division. No controversy about a knock out. Just what the Mahoning Valley needed to spark a big interest in boxing again. Not even Boom Boom Mancini won his first major title shot. He lost to Alexis Arguello but eventually earned the title. Pavlik is still undefeated and has an amazing knock out percentage. Only three fights went the distance and they weren't even full 10 rounders. Can't wait for his next fights!!!

I've been a fan of Pavlik for over a year now. Right from the first fight I saw on Foxtel here in Australia. I predicted 8 months ago that Kelly would knock out Taylor when they fought. He is learning everytime he steps into the ring.
I know it's strange to say this given what happened in Rnd 2, but his defense has got better with each fight. If you watch the fight again (I've watched it now 4 times), you'll see that once he got his feet back under him after 2 mins of Rnd 3, he was never really troubled by Taylor again.
He caught 95+% of taylors punches on the gloves. In comparison Pavlik was throwing very hard jabs and also the right hand that did the first damage to Taylor in the 7th was the 31st bombing right that Taylor copped.
The longer the fight went on you could see that Taylor was slowing down his side ways movement, then the first time he went straight back in defence he got snotted. Pavlik then showed the amazing killer instinct he has to finish off his opponent by throwing 7 more punches of which 2 uppercuts and a left hook were spot on.
The bottom line was that the ref did Taylor a BIG favour, because if Taylor had some how got to his feet, Pavlik would have put him into intensive care in the next 30 seconds.
The other thing to come out of the fight was just how pathetic the HBO commentators were in calling the fight. In the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds they were talking like the result was a
faite a compli...that Taylor was dominating Pavlik. They totally failed to see the change that had started to come over the fight. They didn't see Taylor starting to slow down. Nor did they acknowledge how powerful an effect Pavliks double jab was having in setting up Taylor for the straight right opportunity.
When Pavlik decides to move up to Super Middle Weight in a year or 2, having had the time to work on getting his left hand back into a defensive position after the jab, he is going to scare the crap out of all of the fighters at that weight.
Imagine the power in that right hand with an additional 7 pounds of muscle behind that leverage.

I live in northeast Ohio and this is as good a story as when Ray Mancini was a title holder. Too bad boxing just doesn't have the following it once had.....I don't even know if this is going to be a huge sports story throughout the state, though the editors at The Plain Dealer put down their coffee cups long enough to cover the pre-fight, but couldn't leave space open in the Sunday sports section to at least give the result.

I'd just like to chime in and say that there is nothing out of the ordinary about a fight ending that late at night not making the Sunday Paper the next morning. Usually anything that happens after 11pm is too late for the next morning paper.

taylor was clearly out of it sitting down in the corner, rewatch the fight! he was staring at the ground like an expressionless baby, which is why the fight was stopped. he was showing no signs of movement.
pavlik was resting on his arms, and not even laying flat on the ground and immediately got right up.
the referee took a good look at taylor and knew that he wasnt going to make the count. even if he DID somehow make the count, he would have taken another monster shot which was unnecessary.
and yes, taylor should have taken a knee, but the fight was great and kelly is frickin awesome!
one thing though, how the heck was taylor leading by 4,3, and 3 on the cards! thats frickin bullcrap, god boxing judges suck.

I have watched Kelly Pavlik fight for about his last 5 fights or so. I have enjoyed watching him, I think everyone likes a finisher.
I can say though that he was given a chance to recover and get up in the 2nd round, Jermain should of had his chance at the end of the fight. Premature stoppage? Maybe a bit. He was the champ.

I posted my prediction in Yahoo Answers of Pavlik by TKO in 7 and I was right on the money !!!!....It was a great fight for both fighters & I had 2 perceptions of the fight that nobody mentioned ??---1) When Pavlik went down in round 2...because he was in the center of the ring ( instead of on the ropes ) he was saved from further punishment by Taylor which may have resulted in a 2nd round TKO by Taylor-------2) When Pavlik caught Taylor with that first right to the jaw in round 7...Taylor was against the ropes. If Taylor had " taken a knee " at that time...it would haved saved him from further punishment by Pavlik & possibly allowed him to get his " legs " back. Instead....Taylor went to the corner which allowed Pavlik to continue his barrage gaining a stoppage in round 7.......Kudos to both fighters + an extra " attaboy " to Pavlik !!!!

Nice guy, hard worker, big heart. Sometimes those three things don't work out for boxers. Glad he got his title the right way. Didn't have to go to prison or talk smack. Truly a roll model for youngsters.

I hate to say it, but a white guy is not going to get props from the media because they are so afraid of being labeled racist for promoting a 'great white hope'. It is stupid but true in boxing.
