my bf got his licensce suspended and was put on probabtion....he violated his probation and was pulled over the other day he got a ticket for driving on a suspended licencse...as he understands, this is a pretty big deal and could be put in jail...should he talk to an attorney before he calls his probation officer or should he call his probation officer first?
i would like to hear from people who have dealt with this or are in law enforcement. technically we think he's supposed to call his probation officer first, however i think before he speaks to anybody he should let his lawyer know whats going on...
help please

He is allowed to call whomever he wishes first. I would say to call his probation officer first. If his lawyer tells him to not call the PO, then he could get in real trouble with the PO. And if the PO. finds out before he tells him, he could get in trouble. Calling the PO. is the best thing he can do for himself. Yes, he will still get in trouble, but it shows that he is taking responsibility for his actions. That will be noted. I usually give about a day or two at most before I call a PO so that those I come into contact with can have a chance.

Good Luck.

I would call the PO first. Preventing a problem is always better than fighting it later. His lawyer doesn't need the info immediately, whereas, his PO does. Your BF already has enough problems since he doesn't seem to follow court orders.

Yes not that it will get him totally out of trouble but securing legal council is always a good idea and i have pre-paid legal and it works... no joke, "the best 29$ a month i could have ever spent"...
