I was cooking my eggs & cheese & put on some music. I thought the blues station would play gospel. An old blues song came on with the lyrics, What's the use of getting sober if you gotta get drunk again?
I thought what foolishness. Then I realized I didn"t know the answer. So Yahoo answers people. Do you have an answer?

Ironically, we Packers fans don't need to get drunk this year.

"... if you gotta get drunk again." That seems to point to the compulsion of alcoholism. Operative word--"gotta." Personally I don't think in terms of sober being and drunk being. When I drink alcohol, I enjoy the taste and slight lightness of being that comes from a small amount taken with dinner. I don't drink anything that I don't enjoy intrinsically. I do not like the taste of Coca-Cola by the way, so....I don't drink it! (Of course if you mix it with whiskey, which I also don't like, the two mix well and then it tastes good--go figure, eh?) So the question only makes sense if you're an alcoholic. I guess I can't answer it either.

Cheers!

That is one of the many reasons I decided to quit drinking booze cold turkey. I was not an every day boozer. I was more of a weekend party drunk. Sunday was my day of recovery. I was incoherant on Sundays. Monday morning I was getting over my headache and had my appetite back. By Thursday morning, after being sober for 5 days, I was getting nervous and was ready for the weekend. 5 PM sharp I was popping the top of the booze bottle and pooring it down again. I just woke up one day and decided to never drink a drop of alcohol again. That was nearly 3 1/2 years ago and I have never wanted to go back to that lifestyle again.

I can't imagine why you "gotta" get drunk again? It is a song, after all, and a blues song at that. "Everybody wanna know why I sing the blues." Fact is, sobering up often cures the blues! At least once you get over the hang-over.

Some Pains will need to be dwelt with before they can be over come. I guess a person will need to sober up to see if the pain is still there.

There are times to be sober and times to be drunk.

I have never understood how it is considered "fun" to get drunk, throw up, pass out, and wake up with a splitting headache, only to throw up yet again.

None of it tastes good anyhow, it is very fattening, and smells awful.

However, I accept that this is considered cool by some people.

The only reason to get sober is so you can see what is coming. If you are drunk you might miss the turn to eternal happiness.
Love and Peace.
