Your dog probably has one of three things, (1) fleas, (2) flea dermititis, or (3) skin allergies. If your dog has fleas or flea dermititis trying using an over the counter flea shampoo if your dog is old enough. Wait a couple of days and apply frontline flea control available from your vet. You can buy a single dose. Don't waste your money buying Hartz or other flea products because they usually don't do the job. If your pet still has the itchy's and is red and irritated take to the vet for a "skin scrape". They'll find out if it is an allergy or what's called demodex or sarcoptic mange. Don't be alarmed, it treatable. I believe sarcoptic mange can be transferred to humans. Best of luck to you.

Sounds like it is fleas. Baths won't help, and they'll make her skin more raw.
Get some PROPER treatment from a vets - Frontline, Advantage and Revolution all actually work. Comb your dog and look at the hair on the comb - see any little black, comma shaped flakes in there? Those are flea dirts.

Sounds like some sort of allergy or something more serious. If it's allergies you can give it benadryl 1 mlg per lbs. That will relieve the itching. Being it's around the mouth and snot, I tend to think some sort of fungi or ringworm, if that is the case you need to take the dog to the vet.
Do you have chain link fence? Is is possible it's sticking it's nose through it and causing an irritation?

Douglas,
That is an allergy. Most likely to corn, wheat, or soy. Get to the Local Pet Store and get a food called Natures Recipe. Venison meal and rice. You could even go with a fish meal and potato. This food is sold at PetSmart and works wonders. We need to do this now because her skin hurts.

How big is she? If she is at least 20lbs you can try giving her 1/2 a Benadryl. It may be allergies. Ask your Vet. My dog has seasonal allergies. Also stop using flea soap -get something with oatmeal and baking soda.,she may be allergic to the flea soap.

Skin infection, parasites - other than fleas.
Could also be a dietary imbalance. Try spiking her food with "Missing Link" for dogs. I used it with my cats, and their skin and coat problems went away.
But take her to the vet ASAP.
Supplement her diet with Missing Link and look into feeding her Natural Balance pet foods - the ones promoted by Dick vanPatten. Feed her only foods made from HUMAN GRADE meats, not the garbage scraped from the slaughter house floor used in other brands.

The skin scrape is a good idea, as is checking for Ringworm. What are you feeding your dog? Whatever the brand, you may want to check it here:

Ingredients in grocery store brands, and even brands that your vet is paid to sell to you, are loaded with irritating fillers and additives that will cause problems such as the ones that you describe. Good luck!

Have you had her checked by a vet? She might have dry skin from being washed too much, or another skin condition or allergy that needs to be treated.
