Great Britian is fast becoming a totalitarian state. We've got more cameras monitoring us than anywhere else in the world. The police already have the world's largest DNA database, not content with that there is talk from Whitehall of adding the entire population. Every vehicle is to be fitted with a GPS system and it's movements recorded and kept for x number of years (can't remember how many). We'll soon have the most comprehensive ID card system in the world - not just with ID details but over 100 other pieces of information including credit history, medical records etc.
The government tell us it's to make road pricing fair and to prevent terrorism - what rubbish. We already have a system in place that makes those who drive the most pay the most, it's called fuel tax. All the terrorists attacks in the UK have been from 'home grown' terrorists and the spiralling number of CCTV's have failed to reduce crime rates.
It's alleged that all mobile phone calls can already be recorded (some people beleive this is already happening) and it's beleived that all emails are 'scanned' for sensitive teminology. This work is allegedly carried out at the top-secret USAF base at Menwith Hill in North Yorkshire.
Rant over, back to recycling. The recycled waste is largely processed within the UK, don't know the exact figure but it's in excess of 90%. Wherever possible this is done locally. If you go to your local recycling centre the staff there will be able to tell you where each type of waste is sent.
Some waste, the general stuff, certainly used to be loaded onto barges and shipped over to places like Malaysia where it was just dumped and the children would scavenge through it. There was an outcry about this not so long back, whether anything has been done about it is another matter (I suspect not much will have been done).
We're going to run out of landfill sites in 7 years so the government are actively looking at ways of reducing rubbish. This probably means convening lots of expensive meetings, setting lots of targets and working out ways to extract more money from the tax payer, whilst not actually addressing the issue of the rubbish.

what was Russia like years ago?
why do the English continue going on about bins being emptied once a fortnight? Its being going on in Northern Ireland for at least the last five years and I've never heard a complaint. Are the English very dirty? Northern Ireland doesn't seem to be coming down with rats because the bins are emptied once a fortnight.
And its not just smoking in cars that been stopped - its driving recklessly thats being centred upon - so lighting a ***, eating a sandwich etc may cause the bad driving.

Read "1984" by George Orwell. He was a few years ahead of time, but "Big Brother is Watching" today. Who to blame? Start with a mirror. Then look at all the gullible and ignorant who want the government to care for them from the cradle to the grave. Those who feel that thinking for themselves is too hard and want to let someone else decide. The great unwashed electorate, the voters are to blame for the situation. The voters indoctrinated by years of Leftist politicians, media and education, told what to think, that wrong is right and right is wrong. Educated in Political Correctness without any common sense.
In 1807 being English counted for something. Life wasn't perfect or as free in many ways, but no governmental nannies micromanaged your life. No one cared if you smoked, ate, drank or drugged yourself to death as long as you didn't cause trouble for someone else. Now all they want is to dictate everything you can or cannot do based on their ideas of how you should live and do it by law. That is tyranny!

As we now have heaven knows how many millions of former USSR citizens living and working over here, is it surprising that 'Big Brother' is taking over!

We the people are the culprits....we are letting the government think for us, tells us what to eat, to smoke, to drink...
Is easier that way, so when we are angry we blame the government...
When we vote do we think? Do we use the power in our hands....

Quite right, God should definitely be allowed to smoke in cars. It's an absolute human right after all.
