every time i bate i get a really bad headache and have flashing visions of my dad whipping me. what does this mean?

Sounds to me like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - a disorder of getting caught living in the same moment, being unable to move on past a traumatic event, usually characterized by flashbacks.
You hear about it mostly with war veterans, rape survivors and people who have been abused - anyone who's been through something traumatic can suffer from it.
It's not going to go away on its own. Get yourself down to a doctor and be prepared for talks of medication or counseling. You should listen though - that stuff really helps.
