If you live in the U.S. the 60gig uses hardware for backward capability..

THe 80gig uses an emulator, (software) for backward capability...so you need to run update when when you get the system to playps1 and ps1 games...

Get the 60gig, theps3 accepts any harddrive. For example we have the 60 gig and we have all our music, videos etc...on a 160 gig external harddirive we download form the ps3 right to that and for games we use the internal...

Features of both

Blueray hd movie player
Or you for regular dvds the ps3 upscales them to hd.

PS3 Games are on 50gig blueray discs (bigger games more space for hd graphics and sound files) 360, elite use 8gig dvd for games..

PS3 Input output options, usb, memory stick, sd memory cards, and accepts compact flash cards,

Networking ps3 - comes with wifi or ethernet, bluetooth,

Ps3 comes with rechargable bluetooth wireless controllers

PS3 Free online play

PS3 Interent browser- surf the anywhere on the internet-watch youtube videos on the big screen...

The ps 3 is a full HD entertainment center not just a gaming machine..

It has an RSx nvidia GPU --graphics are are insane and the developers haven't even tapped the ps3s full potential yet..

8 cell broadband processor (CPU) capable of the calculations of any system out there, so programmers can use hundreds and hundreds of AI charactors ,,, known of the other systems can do that....

It's not a shabby system for the$499.....

We own all three the Wii , Elite and the PS3....

You can no longer purchase the 20-gig. Unless you can find a store that has some in stock. There is the 80-gig available but I think you would do good getting the cheaper 60-gig. It is more than enough storage space for downloads. I have the 60-gig and I have 6 full length movies on it, a little over 200 songs, pictures, game demos, etc... With all of that I have used only about 35-gigs. Plus it is backward compatible so you literally have hundreds, if not thouands, of games to choose from(PS1/PS2).

20 Gb isn't on sale anymore (officially). The only difference is that 20 Gb version doesn't have wi-fi and slots for memory cards. Visually 20 Gb has no shiny chrome finish. 20 Gb wasn't made for Europe at all.
