If you think animals don't have any souls
why do you pray for them?
My crazy religious (Christian) neighbor said
animals don't have souls as soon as she saw my
new Siamese cat she said she would pray for him.
Because he had a sneezing problem with the booger
flying and all. If you believe animals don't have any souls
and they are just shells then why would you pray for one?

There is nothing mysterious about the soul -- in the past, people would say (Bible) "my soul is hungry" ; so, we understand which the Bible verifies that the word soul refers to the entire person - body, mental, spirit -- everything that makes that person him.

In regard to animals and souls, again read the Bible! When you compare various translations -- we see that the word life many times is exchanged for soul.

Try to read this quote from the Rotherham translation: Gen 1:9
"So it was evening—and it was morning, a fourth day.
20And God said—Let the waters swarm with an abundance of living soul, and, birds, shall fly over the earth, over the face of the expanse of the heavens. "

If you read it -- answer this : Are fish souls? That is what it says. Other scriptures mention other land animals. Thus generally, animals are souls and have soul.

Animals and souls?... Some translations change that. But most literal translations will note that the Bible uses soul in reference to animals also.

In context, both verses below are speaking of animals. The same Hebrew word, "Nephesh" is used. Also note the Wikipedia reference below.

Leviticus 17:11
For the life (the animal soul) is in the blood, and I have given it for you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement, by reason of the life [which it represents].
Leviticus 17:10-12 (in Context) Amplified Version

Genesis 1:20
And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living souls, and let fowl fly above the earth in the expanse of the heavens.
Genesis 1:19-21 (in Context) Darby Translation

I hope this helps.

That is where a lot of the religions, back in the old days, fell short. They only set down what laws and beliefs would be necessary to control the population. They had no idea we would discover dinasours or distant planets or time as a physical property.

They were prety much members of the Flat earth society.

Just because your cat cant speak in toungs, doesnt mean that it cant feel and respond and have affection.

I never could understand why so many of my christian brothers and sisters need doctors. They must be weak in their faith, or its a bunch of bunk.

God created all including animals and inanimate objects. Therefore to pray for the animal's health or the thing to operate correctly is not a conflict it is acknowledging the Creator has the ability to help in any situation.

The Bible teaches that animals have souls, but they do not have eternal spirits. However, I would think your neighbor is a little off on her theology. There is a verse in Romans that talks about those who "have a zeal for God but not according to knowledge."

I dont think of a Christian might desire to get irrationally indignant if the bible is questioned. If human beings dont ask then they gained't understand. in case you have met Christians that do get indignant then i could might desire to question there Christianity. i'm sorry which you have met human beings like that. consistent with possibility they simply didnt truly understand the bible sufficient to respond to the questions so they used anger as a manner out.

Christians pray for anything - even when you ask them not to. They somehow find magical relief in prayer and expect something magical to happen. If something happens they (of course) take the credit for it, and if they can they also feed their ego, with being a little closer to God. Christianity is like a horserace. They are all the horses trying to get to heaven first, never realising they are running in circles, while the atheists are sitting at the side of the track laughing.

this is on the premise that everything is created by God. look for the story of the creation in the Bible. Also, it doesnt necessarily need to have a soul just to be prayed to, dont you think? at times, we pray for good weather, good grades, good luck etc. prayer should never be underestimated and restricted to its true sense, that is, its for all. =)

Although you make sense with your main point, why do you assume your neighbor represents Christianity in a proper fashion?
Sure, she claims to be christian, but I claim to be a millionaire.
Do you automatically accept?
Your neighbor's words and actions scream out she knows nothing of christianity.
