Why not adopt a pet? Please don't breed? Please spay and neuter?

Pet overpopulation is a growing problem:
There are 45 cats and dogs for every one person born.
Only one out of 10 dogs born ever find a permanent home.
Only one out of 12 cats born ever find a permanent home.
800 dogs and cats are destroyed each HOUR in the U.S. because there are not enough homes for them!

Please consider these numbers when you.....


consider letting your pet breed.
neglect having your pet spayed or neutered.
consider buying a pet from a breeder or pet store.
condemn different rescue organizations for euthanizing adoptable pet.
consider a pet for your home. Make sure you are willing and able to make a lifetime commitment to that pet!

I think you are right in what you are saying,people need to look more at the lives of animals,they think just cause animals can't speak they don't feel,purebred or not,an animal is an animal,and they all deserve to be loved and treated well. Excellent posting!

Thank you so much for this post. I am so sick of seeing birth after birth on this board knowing that most of those born will have a miserable short life. I don't have the facts but I would bet that a cat over 4 years old in a shelter has very little chance of being adopted It's about time that people who think they care showed some responsibilty and spayed and nutered their cats

I agree on pet adoption. There are tons of pets that need to be adopted. The sad thing is, often times adopted pets have a little bit more problems then getting a new puppy from a breeder. They tend to run a little bit more expensive and the owner needs to take more time for the relationship. A lot of people just simply don't have the time and funds to adopt a pet.

The most common problem is when people think "it's just a dog (cat, bird etc..)". I wish people would treat pets more like a part of their family. It would eliminate more of the "i can't take care of it let's get rid of it" problem. People do need to be more responsible for their pets. Pets have feelings too.

I adopted this beautiful little girl from a shelter in Mobile, Alabama and she is the love of my life. She was rescued from the streets and had just given birth a short while before and had just weaned her pups. She has lived with me for the last 3 years and is so spoiled and LOVED. She gets her annual check-ups, and usually goes to be groomed and her nails trimmed (since she is an indoor dog, she does not wear her nails down on the streets and pavements, so for her comfort in walking they need to be short. Also, she gets chicken flavored IAMS dog food, and chicken jerky treats. I have a therapeutic bed for her with extra pillows and blankets, and when she whimpers to come up onto the couch or to sleep with me, I help her up. She is an older gal, like me, so we get along great!

if I ever have a dog or cat I would look at rescue centers first and if not already neutered or sprayed I would have it done. The reason I don't at the Monet is because I would finagle need to be able to feed my animal and pay the vet bills.

I never condemn rescues or shelters of any kind. I just hate PETA. They kill more animals with their BS propaganda then they've ever helped. They dont want ANYONE to EVER own a pet.

ill second that.. we run a cat adoption centre and we put down at least 50 cats a week (which is a lot for tassie) and its all because people cant desex their animals.. it is a privlidge to own an animal not a right.. so make sure you DESEX YOUR ANIMALS

If I ever get another animal I will get where I want to get them.
That would be MY decision not other people.

yep and be viciously attacked by that problemed adopted pet no thanks much prefer to get a dog that I know the background on.
