Personally, I do not believe it is the religion that you practice that determines your soul's place in eternity but that you have faith and a relationship with a Higher Power.
As to why we have Protestants and Catholics (although they both Christian religions) is because there were a group of people who "protested" some of the tenets of the Catholic Church.
Protestantism encompasses the forms of Christian faith and practice that originated with the doctrines of the Reformation. The word Protestant is derived from the Latin protestatio meaning declaration which refers to the letter of protestation.
The reformwhich lead to Protestantism was lead by Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Ulrich Zwingli who believed that they were reforming a corrupt and heretical Catholic Church. The doctrines of the Reformation include such denominations as Lutherans, Presbyterians, and Methodists. The Protestants continued to split into different groups and some of the Protestant faiths today are: Adventists, Baptist, Anglican / Episcopalian, Congregational, Lutheran
Methodist / Wesleyan, Non-denominational, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Quakerism, Reformed and Unitarian.
I do not believe that any Christian faith is "counterfeit" as you suggested. Mankind has complicated a very simple message: Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and you are saved.
As far as an atheist, I understand that it is different to have faith in something that isn't tangible but then that is the essence of faith, isn't it? I don't know how God feels about an atheist. I'll ask Him.

Imagine that everyone is Hellbound from the moment of conception and each life is a journey to get back home. If you realized that every judgement you made sent you in the wrong direction, would you stop judging? No one is lost or found if we are all in the same boat. We are not home yet and that is the truth. None of us can be certain that we've followed the right directions until we reach the end of them. I listen for my creator's directions since that is where I began and where I wish to return. All other directions are matters of other's perspectives. I go to the source for truth.

Why would any Christian who obeys the commands to Love God and their Neighbor be Hellbound? be you Catholic or Protestant it does not matter because if you are living in falsehood then the words of Jesus will be terrible indeed;
Many will cry `Lord,`Lord, but I will say to them `I do not know you`

catholism is a bullshit religion, they make up beliefs as they go along. purgatory exists then it doesnt? priests cant marry? you wonder why they are out malesting little boys. its messed up! i went to catholic school for about 7 years of gradeschool, and i fell into a huge depression. the school i went to was absolutely horrible. education was lacking. teachers had been there for 30+ years...it was pretty bad. they locked me in a closet because i was misbehaving....? and they call themselves professionals? why not worship the sun? if it were not for the sun none of us would be living. the earth would be a giant icecube! i think its funny how christians believe there is a man upstairs judging every move you make and the fact that if your "catholic" you have to go to some random "priest" and confess your sins? doesnt make sense to me...i was brought up catholic, i know what im talking about i went through hell when i went to the school. i was ripped out because of the depression i went through, i had thoughts on suicide thats how bad this was. i had to be homeschooled because i was afraid to attend any other school as if the teachers were going to be the same. homeschooling was the best thing ever for me and i also got a way better education. and its also funny how the catholics i have been involved with are evil people. and consider themselves followers of jesus? its just ridiculous. and its also funny how when my parents would approach the school over these things that were happening they would lie. until my mom caught them in an act and they felt liek idiots. damned to hell tehy are. anyways, im getting off the subject. worship the sun. heaven is on earth. and anyone who has your child in catholic school, you better make sure you know every thing that goes on in that school. take it from someone who knows.

God doesn't care what we call ourselves, or by what religion that we follow. If we don't follow the redemptive plan as laid out in Acts 2:38, we will not not fulfill the purpose in which we were created.We will all end up in an unhappy place.
We must follow what the Apostles did, the way that they prescribed. To do anything else is foolhardy.

No.
The Catholic Church teaches:
Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.
Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.
All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

as a Catholic I really don't have any idea who is hellbound or not, and the reason why there's so much division is because of the Bible-fundamentalists who protest everything Catholic.

We are all classified sinners by God;
Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
That's why we all need a savior;
2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written. The just shall live by faith.
Tit 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Tit 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tit 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior;
Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Tit 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Only God knows who will reside with Him and who won't. On He will judge us accoring to our hearts, words and deeds. Faith without works is dead.. What do the scars of our hands and feet show? What have we done for others? How have we demonstrated God's Love in our lives? Have we done for God's glory or our own?

Any one who does not believe in their heart that Jesus died for their sins and that God raised Him from the dead, and that He is now seated at the right hand of God, making intercession for us. And any one, who does not openly invite Jesus to come and live in their heart and wash away their sins, being baptized in the name of Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit, will not have a future with God. †
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Romans 8:34 (New King James Version) †
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:1 (New King James Version) †
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:8-10 (New King James Version) †
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (New King James Version) †
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6 (New King James Version) †
