Hello,

Telecoversion lens magnify the length of the lens you are using. You put them between the camera body and the lens. They do require more light so you will need to adjust your aperture and shutter speed accordingly. They come in different magnification factors. You can get a 2x, 3x or 4x.
The main reason to have these lenses is that they are small and take up a lot less room than having a lot of full telephoto lenses in your bag. They are easy to carry around and will fit in the pocket of a jacket for easy access.

You would use a lens like this for shooting wild-life and maybe some sports. You would need to shoot sports on a bright sunny day, as they take away a least one F/stop from your lens.

There are some tele-conversion lenses you can attach to the front of your digital camera lens, the kind you can't change, to make the lens a bigger telephoto. They don't cost too much, but they're not always the best quality either.

The teleconverters that go on SLR cameras double or triple the focal length of the lens, but they also change the amount of light reaching the sensor or film, so you will need either brighter light, faster ISO, or longer shutter speed which will increase the chance for a shaky camera and blurred image.

Teleconverters are inserted between the lens and the camera. Usually they double the focal length. A 50mm lens becomes a 100mm, a 200 becomes a 400.

They come in handy, because they don't take up as much space as 2 lenses would. However, the teleconverter also reduces the amount of light that makes it to the camera, as every lens does.
