yes-a dog can have just about any illness a human can have. and there are of course meds to help maintain it. they can also 'get' diabetes from being over weight like we can so it might reversable. it could also be bloat or a number of things. get him to the vet asap and have the doc check him out. kidney failure would be on my mind as well.
hope you do the right thing and get him in the vets. he needs you to be there for him since he cant 'speak' our language.
very good of you to notice the change in his habits-some owners dont and its a shame b/c by the time they do-its too late.

Hello. First off, I believe you will have to do much more study on diabetes in puppies earlier than you get the canine. Yes you will must go watching for a diabetic pet food, or whatever nearly it. I work at a pet store, and we now have two humans who've a diabetic canine, and they buy Eagle percent Holistic Oatmeal and Duck. It can be a inexperienced bag. You could wish to seem into that one. It can be not a diabetic pet food, however i know two men and women with a diabetic dog that do buy it. Hope I helped somewhat. Just right good fortune!

Yes, dogs can be diabetic. I have a 10 year old Australian Shepherd who has been a diabetic for the last 3-4 years and is well controlled. She gets insulin twice a day . Take your dog to the vet and have him tested immediately. My little girl is still a wonderful companion,(she went blind before we found out). She still plays, and still adds great joy to our lives.

First you should be sure he is drinking more water than what his daily needs are. Every day, dogs need 50mL of water for every kg of body weight (or about 25 mL per lb of body weight) .
Take his weight in lbs and multiply by 25 or his weight in kgs and multiply by 50. That's about how many mLs of water he needs in one day.
Example: 70 lbs x 25 = 1750 mL of water needed daily...you can calculate how many cups are in 1750 mLs if you need to.
Over the next couple of days try to put his whole days worth of water into a bowl and see how fast he goes through it. You can take that info to the vet with you and appear very intelligent!
Excess water drinking can be due to diabetes but diabetes is not the only disease that can cause this problem. Have your vet check him out...they'll probably do bloodwork and collect a urine sample to start out with. Good luck.

Of course they can.
Have you had him checked by a vet lately? If not, time to take him in....The vet is the only one that can tell your if your dog is diabetic, not anyone here!

Yes, they can and excessive drinking is only one of the symptoms. See a vet and let them know you are concerned.
