I agree with you all the way! I think they really need to crack down on some of these laws passed, especially talking while driving! I also think that the police academy need to better educate officer using a different tactic. My reason for saying this is because recently I was in a situation where the police entered my home without a search warrant or any permission from any one in the house, handcuffed all of the adults before telling us why or what for, sat us all out in front of my house for all the neighbors to see, and not to mention, right in front of my two children (9, and 3yrs old) while the cops searched my house high and low! I am not sure if they are aware of how many of our constitutional rights they violated, but I am (and I only took one semester of criminal justice!). They finally told us the reason, which was not a justified reason at all, apologized, then uncuffed us, and let us go on with our lives, while they sat in front of my house and talked, about god knows what, for about another hour then left! Talk about embarrassing, and bizarre! Who do we turn to when we become a victim of humiliation and are constitutional rights are violated by the very people who we usually would turn to? Try answering that one....

Police are not insufficiently trained. They have tons more to do when people call 911 than to chase people who are yapping on the phone while driving. You see these drivers everyday? Then take the plate number down and report the time, location and description of the driver. In some jurisdictions you can be the one to sign the complaints depending upon what the charge is in that jurisdiction. If it's a misdemeanor, generally a witness can sign it.
So, what are YOU doing about these drivers? The officers are trained; they are just busy with burglars, robbers, rapists, child molestors and drunk drivers.

Everything needs a starting point. If a road accident happened for example and the driver was on a mobile at the wheel, he would come under more responsibility as it would of been an illegal act that was involved in the 'accident'.

Yeah your right
Im a police officer of many years service, and its extremely frustrating when i know 1 in 5 people use their phones whilst driving.
and when we have 12 officer covering 79000 people, over an area of 4 miles square; at any time (assuming nobody is sick or on leave) we know we are fighting a losing battle.
We hate it, but lets face it, if the laws werent there, we wouldnt be able to do squat all when we occassionally do catch somebody

The government passes new laws and it the the job of the police to enforce the law. The problem is an incompetent, ill trained, out of control police force.

I agree with you in principal and I'm in a position to know how frustrating this can be.
We need less bureaucracy in the Police service. That way we can be out on the streets preventing crime (including the minor stuff) instead of in the station writing reams of paper about it.

Drivers do still use mobile phones whilst driving......... but you want to hear them squirm when you catch them. I've heard every excuse going. Maybe 3 points and £60 will dissuade them from doing it again.
It would be impossible to enforce every single breach of every single law..... and you obviously know that.

Passing new laws is never a waste of time.
Those who break the law may get away with it for a while but will be caught eventually.

Boris Johnson was caught using his phone while driving. So even the politicians that make up stupid rules dont agree with them.
