I am going to UK for eight months, can anybody tell me that if i purchase a laptop from there, do i need to pay VAT, or is it possible to get the VAT refund while coming back to india(like it is possible in germany).

You can claim back VAT on things you take out of the UK. To do so you must get a form when you buy the laptop. This will restrict the shop where you buy it as not all shops offer this. Try along Tottenham Court Road in London there must be one there that offers this service. This other thing you must do is show the laptop when you leave the country to prove you are taking it out. When you do this it must be unopened and in its' original packing. If you have opened and used it then no VAT refund.

contact your embassy in UK.or UK embassy in India. I got my VAT back from all EU countries I visited, with some paper work. But UK is always different, starting with the left side of the road and such.

It's possible, but the pound is so strong, the cost electronics is too high, even sans the 17.5 percent.

I'd get one there, that way you could still get it repaired when you get back.

For Vista, go with 2Gb Ram, minimum, trust me.
